The Future of SBBC
The Future of SBBC

Barry Capal, on behalf of EBED, receives the share documents from Laurie

We are delighted to announce that Laurie Champniss and family have recently generously donated their shares in SBBC Ltd to English Bridge Education & Development (EBED) who have pledged to continue the Club's tradition as a first-rate Centre for playing and learning bridge.

EBED is a registered charity and began operations in April 2014.  It is working to encourage more people to take up bridge, especially young people, as well as building the infrastructure which will make this aim a reality.

Laurie believes that donating the Centre to EBED is the best way to secure the future of your club.  EBED are extremely grateful to Laurie for his generosity and will be working hard to continue to provide an excellent service to SBBC members whilst also realising the potential of the Centre as a means to develop bridge in both the local area and throughout England.

Coincidentally, and as previously announced, after 20 years in her job, Club Manager Sue Reid has decided to retire and will be leaving as soon as a replacement is found.  We hope to make an announcement in this regard early February and would like to reassure all SBBC members that they will experience little change in the excellent service on offer at the Club. In the longer term we believe the management of the Centre by EBED will offer a number of excellent opportunities for club members.  EBED is committed to the promotion and teaching of bridge and envisages using SBBC as a centre for a number of its education and development schemes.  We hope you agree that having activities such as these based at your club will be of great benefit to you and your clubmates.

If you have any questions or comments regarding the donation of the Centre to EBED then please do not hesitate to contact Barry Capal (barry@ebu.co.uk) or Gordon Rainsford (gordon@ebu.co.uk) and they will be happy to answer your queries.
