There is a  (seemingly) once in a lifetime chance coming up in Cheltenham, to listen to Zia Mahmood talk about the game of bridge, and to play some hands he has prepared and learn from them. It happens on Friday 8th December at Hatherley Manor Hotel and starts at 11.15; if you go visit the Cheltenham BC website ( you can find details of how to apply for tickets.   They cost £45 but that includes lunch and any profits go to a good cause.

Dorset are holding a Multi-Teams event for the Weymouth and Hardwick Cups hosted by Dorchester Bridge Club, on Monday 4th December, commencing at 7.00pm.  This is a friendly event, with cash prizes including a ‘non-expert’ prize and teams from Somerset are welcome to enter on line at

EBU County News November 2017
General Information
  County Charities

Each year one or more bridge events are organized and promoted by the SCBA Committee in support of a charity. This year’s nominated charities are Somerset & Dorset Air ambulance and the Bay Centre in Burnham.

The Michael Coda Cup is the County’s principal fund raising event. It is a simultaneous pairs’ competition open to affiliated and non-affiliated clubs within the SCBA’s geographical area. It will be held on each day during a week of February. All of the entry fees and donations less costs, incurred by the SCBA, are passed on to the nominated charity.

The result on each board at a participating club will be compared with the result for all other pairs from all of the participating clubs to obtain an overall result. Nearly all the organisation required for a club to participate will be taken care of by the SCBA Committee. Your club secretary will be contacted about the event, but it would help if you could lobby your own club’s committee to hold a heat of this event.

If you or anyone else in your club should require any further details please contact Gina Howard.
