About Us

Welcome to the Somerset Contract Bridge Association (SCBA)

The SCBA and its Members

The SCBA is a county association member of the English Bridge Union (EBU), the national bridge organisation for England.

The aim of the SCBA is to promote duplicate bridge in the County of Somerset, and in the areas of North Somerset and North East Somerset, and to encourage participation in inter-county competitions as well as running inter-club and other competitions for its members.

Our Competitions

The SCBA organises and runs a wide range of competitions for clubs, and for its own members. Full details of our competitions can be found on this website.

I appreciate some of our members will have no interest in playing duplicate bridge outside of their own club. Others may like to compete but only against players of a similar standard. Over the last few years we have introduced competitions which allow you to do just that. These competitions have attracted a good number of entrants.

I would still like to see more new faces at some of our competitions next season. So if you are a new member, or an old member who has recently not played in any of our competitions, why not pledge to try out at least one of them.

West of England Congress

The SCBA also organises and runs the West of England Congress, which attracts players from all over the country. It will be held at the Winter Gardens Weston-super-Mare in early October. Early bookings indicate the green point events in the Congress will once again be well attended, so book early to avoid disappointment.

Education

We have a programme of events to help you improve your bridge. In particular I am delighted that Paul Bowyer and Andrew Robson, two of the best known bridge teachers in the country, will be holding seminars for our members at the Woolavington Village Hall.  Please keep your eye on the county website for fuller details of all educational events as arrangements are finalised.

I hope you have an enjoyable season.
