Congratulations to Lawrence Haynes & Keith Shuttleworth who were the overall winners of the pairs competition in the Edgar Foster Cups on Sunday 18th September.  With Celia Day & David Clarke (Wolverhampton) coming second and the third pair in the team, Marion Jordan & Kevin Sullivan (Newcastle) coming 9th, the team event was easily won by the Staffs and Shrops side, who retained their 2015 title.  This is an event where teams of 8 are entered from Derbyshire, Gloucestershire, Hereford, Staffs & Shrops, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.  Staffs & Shrops players are chosen from those who have been successful in SSCBA events, Lawrence and Keith having won the County Championship in April.  Well done again.

Entries are invited for the Shropshire Teams event for 2016-17.  This competition is open to any team in Shropshire and we encourage members who do not yet have a team to put one together, even if it means looking to other clubs to make up a team.  Matches will be played on the third Tuesday of the month from November to April (6:45 for a 7:00 p.m. start).  The cost will be £10 per table, payable on the day - i.e. normal table money of £2.50 per person applies.

Because the church hall is being renovated, we will be playing in the church itself for the next few months.  In addition there have been some changes to planned bridge dates:

1.  There will be no bridge on Tuesday 18th October, but there will be a normal duplicate session on Thursday 20 October instead,

2.  There will be no bridge on Tuesday 8th November, but there will be a normal duplicate session on Thursday 10 November instead, and

3.  The Shropshire Teams of Four competition will now start on Tuesday 15th November and will not take place in October.

We are expecting a good turnout at the two Thursday sessions, but please make every effort to come on those days to ensure they are worthwhile.

We have been asked about the Competition Analysis tables in the website and have reviewed the way these are set up.  Most of these tables are just for members' interest.  Only the "Pairs Average Competition" table has a real competitive element.  We have set the tables up so that they report any pair that has played at least three matches together, as this will enable people who do not play regularly together to see how well they are doing.  However, pairs will need to have played at least 10 times together to qualify for the Club Leading Partnership Shield.  This will be awarded at the end of the year based on April '16 - March '17 results.
