Chairman’s Report
I can hardly believe a year has gone by since I took over as Chairman. Thank you all for your support and thanks to Vic for ensuring such a smooth changeover.
To begin with, I would like to thank the committee and the officers for their hard work during the last twelve months. They have braved cold nights and warm evenings to attend our various meetings and I would like to recognize their contribution now.
I would also like to thank Christine for looking after the Stewards / Host list, and I would like to thank Kay for keeping us refreshed during our bridge evenings.
Congratulations to our Team of Eight (Denny, Jagdish, Robin, Rosemarie, Steve, Tony, Nick, David Elvin – and others I believe) for reaching the final of the Garden Cities Cup. Congratulations also to Denny, Christine, David and Jeremy for reaching the final of the Crockfords Plate recently.
During the year we have provided several new tables and disposed of broken ones. Thank you Tony for organizing this. We shall continue to replace worn out or broken tables in the coming years.
Our thanks go too to Rosemarie for supplying our new notice board. This currently shows some notes on etiquette and minutes of the last agm. I hope you will find this useful going forward.
In January we tried a recruitment drive for new members by waiving table money for visitors and by providing additional refreshments (thank you Rosemarie). Unfortunately this was not a great success and like many other clubs in the area, we will continue to look for new members. On a more positive note, thanks go to Tony for introducing new members from his bridge classes. You are most welcome.
Steve has worked hard this year on bringing our membership details up-to-date. All members should now be on the website with contact details where we believe we have permission to show them. Please would you take the time to look at the website and check your entry on the list and let me know if there are any changes needed. Also, if anyone does not want his or her contact details displayed, please let me know. Thank you.
During the year, the Sanderstead Methodist Church has treated and re-polished the floors and last year they installed new windows.
The Church is celebrating its 60th Anniversary at the end of September. There will be a “Community Exhibition” at the Church on Wednesday 30th September from 2pm - 9pm at which a number of organisations will be holding a display. The Exhibition is free entry and refreshments will be provided. We have agreed to have a Selsdon Bridge Club site and intend to have a table of bridge with four players playing throughout the afternoon and evening. Any visitors to the exhibition who would like to try their hand will be invited to sit in. Several members have already volunteered to populate the stand, but we really need more and would welcome help from any other members who are willing to participate. If you could spare an hour or two sometime on the afternoon or evening of the 30th, I’d be very grateful – please let me know.
Our calendar for the coming months is available on the website. We have the Dorin Salver Simultaneous Pairs in a week’s time, The Club Pairs Challenge the following week, the next round of the IFE Cup on 1st October, the British Autumn Sim Pairs on 8th October and our own Pairs Championship on 19th and 26th November.
Finally, three quick requests:
1 Please ensure you arrive and are seated by 7:20 so the Director knows how many tables are in play and can sort out the movement.
2 Please would you help set up the tables, chairs, cloths, bidding boxes etc.
3 Please make sure that all equipment is put away at the end of the evening, including your cup or glass which should be washed, dried and put away.
Thank you
May I wish you all an enjoyable and successful season.
Treasurer’s Report
Copies of the Treasurer’s Report were circulated.
Subscriptions and table money will remain unchanged for 2015/2016 but an increase in rent is anticipated.

Any Other Business
It has been proposed that we introduce leads to the Bridgemate scoring system. Tony tried this a few weeks ago and it was successful. After a short discussion, a majority of members present voted to try this system for a year.
The Chairman raised the subject of Sim Pairs events. Some years ago, it was agreed to enter 2 EBU and 2 Charity events. Last year we entered the Autumn and Summer EBU Sim pairs and in February we entered the Surrey Sim Pairs – which is a charity event. It was agreed that we would again enter the Surrey Sim Pairs in February, but that the members (and not the Club) would pay the additional table money.
There being no other business, the meeting closed at 7:38 pm.
