THE BRIDGE SCHOOL GOES TO THE CARIBBEAN!

Rob & Tony took on the challenge of teaching bridge on the MS Aurora as part of P&O’s 24 day, Christmas Caribbean Cruise.

Sailing from Southampton we had lots of fun introducing beginners and intermediates to our particular style of teaching; fun and laughter but always professional.

Since Boxing day we were island hopping from Barbados to Grenada, St. Lucia, Antigua and St Maarten, with lots of sun, sea and sand interspersed with the occasional rum punch!  It’s really is a hard life being a bridge teacher but someone’s got to do it!

On the serious side, we’ve had lots of fantastic feedback already: many people who are new to bridge but keen to carry on learning and even a few local couples who’ve signed up for seminars as well as joining our duplicate sessions back home!

Have a Happy New Year!

Rob & Tony

Bridge is a Social Game!

CHRISTMAS EXTRAVAGANZA

100 people joined our latest social bridge event, a Christmas Extravaganza themed Bridge Night on Friday 9th December held in the Colston Hall at the GX Memorial Centre.
We enjoyed an evening of social Chicago bridge with a sumptuous buffet of a selection of Turkey and Cold Meats and imaginative Salad accompaniments, followed by Christmas Pudding, Fruit Salad and such a large Cheese and Biscuit Platter it could have been a mistaken for a 'main course'!
A raffle was held whereby the winner would nominate the Charity to be the beneficiary of all the money raised in the raffle.  The total amount raised was £210 and The Bridge School donated a further £200. The lucky winner was Ros Paine who chose St Luke's Hospice, Harrow and Brent as the Charity to benefit.

Our next social bridge themed event is a "Spanish and Bridge" evening on Friday 17 February 2017!  More information on this event will be sent out shortly, ....... but in the meantime keep this date free !

¡Hasta la Vista!

More information is available on this and future themed evenings on the 'Social Events' page shown on the menu bar to the left.

New Beginning Bridge Courses

LEARN TO PLAY BRIDGE!

We are one of the friendliest places to learn to play bridge and, whether you are on your own or come along with friends, we will make you feel very welcome.  We had two courses:

Evening course started Tuesday 27th September 7.30 pm - 9.30 pm

(FULLY BOOKED)

Daytime course started Friday 30th September 10.00 am - 12 noon

(A FEW SPACES AVAILABLE)

Don't worry if you miss the start date!  We will run some short sessions to help get you up to speed and ready to join the daytime course!  But if you're uncertain whether bridge is for you, then we're also happy for you to come along to your first lesson free!

Why are we the friendliest place to learn to play bridge?

Quite simply we have the most competent and friendly teachers and our philosophy is to 'make bridge social and fun'!  We are also very honest about how long it takes to become a bridge player, something not shared by others.  So if you'd like to know more then please give Rob or Tony, a call or drop them an email.

Supervised Play Sessions

MONDAY EVENING AND THURSDAY MORNING

We run weekly supervised play sessions on a Monday evening and Thursday morning in the Garden Room at the Gerrards Cross Memorial Centre.. These are very friendly sessions suitable for less experienced players or those who enjoy a more relaxed pace of play.

Monday evening is a supervised duplicate session which starts at 7.15 pm and finishes at 10.15 pm.  We play 18-20 boards with a 15 minute refreshment break.

Thursday morning is our 'play and learn' session which starts at 9.45 am and finishes at 12.45 pm.  The pace is even more relaxed.  We play around 16 boards which gives time for some discussion and the chance to learn from our mistakes!  There is also a 15 minute refreshment break.

Each session includes:

  • Advice available from an EBU qualified director/bridge teacher
  • Written notes on each hand, with suggested bidding
  • Cost per person will be £5

Come and join us for these friendly play sessions at the GX Memorial Centre!

Teaching Staff Update!

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Val Bannister to our teaching team.  Both Val and Sue Blythe, currently one of our resident support teachers were recently confirmed as EBU Accredited Teachers having completed their EBU training course and are now Associate Members of the English Bridge Union Teachers Association.

Both Sue and Val will be involved in our new beginner and improver courses. They will also oversee some of our weekly daytime and evening beginner and improver practice play sessions.  Both are professional teachers working at local schools and more information is available if you click on their pictures on the lefthand column!

These changes will allow Carol Aitken to fully manage our support programmes, our beginner and improver practice play sessions and to help develop our programme of social bridge activities.  We wish everyone success in their new roles.

Train Your Brain Seminar

On Saturday 26th November, 48 people joined our 'train your brain' seminar.

The seminar focused on giving players of all levels a series of logical thought processes to follow when dealing with the key elements of the game, opening, responding, leading, defending and declaring.  So many people have commented on the simplicity and usefulness of the techniques that we will look to repeat this again next year!

Don't forget to check out our other exciting new seminars planned for the New Year on the seminar page accessible via the lefthand side menu bar.
