Scoring Guide

Before play

1. Setup and connect to the the BridgePal network.

1. Plug in the router. It will be ready for use when there are 3 green lights showing. This sets up a network called ”BridgeNetwork2”

2. On the taskbar at the bottom of the laptop screen select the Wi-Fi icon this will pop up a list of Wi-Fi networks. Select “BridgeNetwork2” and click “Connect”

2. Open EBUScore and setup the session.

1. From “MAIN MENU” select “Pairs Events” this will open the “Event History” page

2. From the menu at the bottom select “Create New Event” this will open the “Club/Event Details page”. The default settings are usually OK

3. From the menu at the bottom select “Import Deal” this opens a new page. On this page select “Import Deal” , this will open a file selector window – select and open the pbn file for this event. (as prepared by the dealing machine) Probably in the Documents folder. Click “OK” to return to the “Club/Event Details page”.

4. Click “OK” to go to “EVENT MENU”.

3. Setup the movement

1.Chose “Select Movement” from “ EVENT MENU” this will open “Movements” page.

2. Set number of tables, this will show a list of suitable movements to chose from. Select a movement and set other parameters as needed.

3. From the menu at the bottom of the page “Show Description” and Show Movement” may be used to view details of the movement.

4. Click “OK” on the menu at the bottom of the page this shows a movement confirmation page.

5. Click “Yes” to confirm the movement this will return to “EVENT MENU”.

4. Activate scoring.

1. From “ EVENT MENU” select “BridgePal Scoring” this opens the scoring page.

2. Select “Create Database” from the menu at the bottom of the page.

3. Select “Launch BPCS” from the same menu.

4. Click “Yes” on the confirmation box that appears.

5. At this stage the scoring tablets should be active, on each tablet open the BridgePal app. Players can now enter the table number, their names and proceed to play and score.

6. Hand out tablets and boards, start play.

 

After play

1. Review/edit player names.

1. EBUScore is open at the scoring page. From the menu at the bottom of the page click “Return” this will go back to “ EVENT MENU”

2. If there are missing names select “Player Names” this opens the names page. There is a list of player names for this event at the top.

3. Make sure that the name to be edited is selected. NOTE that when a name is entered the selection automatically moves to the next name.

4. The new name can be selected from the list of members on the right of the page. Names not on the list can be typed in.

5. The list of members can be filtered by surname by clicking on the letters of the alphabet that are displayed below the list.

6. Click “OK” from the menu at the bottom of the page to return to “ EVENT MENU”.

2. Review/edit scores.

1. Results can be edited by selecting “Enter Scores” from the “ EVENT MENU”.

2. The traveller for board 1 is displayed at the top of the screen. Other boards can be selected in the “Board” section at the bottom of the screen. Missing scores can also be selected.

3. To edit a score select the “Score” column on the traveller for the pair.

4. A new score can be entered here in the format: e.g. 3N+1S, 2S=W, 4H-1E, 60/40

5. Entering the lead is optional and can be entered at the end e.g. 1N=1S2C

6. Click “Score entry help” for more info

7. Click “Return” to go back to “ EVENT MENU”.

3. Switch networks.

1. On the taskbar at the bottom of the laptop screen select the Wi-Fi icon this will pop up a list of Wi-Fi networks. Select “Marland WiFi” and click “Connect”

4. Upload results to our website.

1. From “ EVENT MENU” select “Reports” this will open the reports page.

2. From the menu at the bottom of the page select “Internet Reports” this will open the internet reports page.

3. Click “Upload Bridgewebs CSV File”.

4. Select the csv file for todays date. (C:\EBUScore\Pairs\BridgeWebs\PS[date].csv)

5. To check if the upload is successful click “Go to Bridgewebs Website”.

5. Upload results to the EBU.

1. Click “Create EBU UMS file” and then “Go to EBU Website” to upload results to the EBU. (C:\EBUScore\Pairs\P2P\)

2. On EBU website click “Login” The club EBU number and password should be setup ready.

3. Click the “Submit “ button at the top right of the page. If the “submit” button is not visible click the menu icon and select from the drop down list.

4. Scroll down if needed to click the “Browse” button at the bottom right of the page. This will open a file selector window – select and open the xml file for this event. Probably in the “C:\EBUScore\Pairs\P2P” folder.

5. Click “Upload” button at the bottom right of the page.

6. Scroll down and check, there may be queries to resolve about EBU numbers.

7. Logout by clicking “Account->Logout” at the top right of the page.

8. Click “Return” to go back to the Reports page.

6. Close all windows.

1. Return to the “MAIN MENU” and Click “Exit” to close EBUScore.

2. From the taskbar at the bottom of the laptop screen select and close all BridgePal scoring windows.

Troubleshooting

The PC shuts down during a session.

1. Restart the PC and open “EBU Score”

2. From “MAIN MENU” select “Pairs Events” this will open the “Event History” page

3. Carefully select the correct event, it should have today's date.

4. From the menu at the bottom select “Retrieve Event” this will go to “EVENT MENU”

5. From “ EVENT MENU” select “BridgePal Scoring” this opens the scoring page.

6. Check that “Reset Server is not ticked.

7. Select “Create Database” from the menu at the bottom of the page.

8. Select “Resume existing Session” from the popup box.

9. Select “Launch BPCS” from the same menu.

10. Click “Yes” on the confirmation box that appears.

Wrong table/section entered on BridgePal

Using the directors menu on BridgePal unit click on Reset Table. You will need to enter directors PIN.

A table number has been entered by the wrong table.

A user is unable to enter their table number as somebody is already using it. Use directors menu – Acquire Table function. This will disconnect the offender and allow your user to enter their table number. Any scores entered by the offender won't be deleted from the computer until overwritten by new scores.

BridgePal freezes

Tap the small square at bottom right of screen to show all open apps.

Swipe up on each app to close, including BridgePal.

Tap the small circle at bottom centre of screen to return to the Home screen.

Restart BridgePal app, it should continue from the screen where the freeze happened.

BridgePal opens showing a previous session.

The laptop was not shut down correctly at the previous session.

Close EBUScore and all BridgePal windows on the taskbar.

Restart EBUScore and start a new session.
