Minutes of Committee Meeting held on 13 March 2015

at 66 Cromwell Road, Rugby

Present:

Sid Downton, Jane Carrington, Liz Edwards, Roger Ward, Dave Owen

Apologies:

Terry Bradbury, Debbie Welch

Minutes from last meeting:

The minutes were approved by the committee, with the note that the Summer event is on 25th April 2015 and not 30th April as recorded.

Matters arising from last meeting:

None

Treasurers report:

Sid confirmed little had changed and the current balances stands at £408.75

Correspondence:

A complaint has been received from the Village Pioneers against the Daventry Donuts.  They are requesting at their next match (Donuts v Pioneers) on Weds 18th March that either an R&DBL Tournament Director be present or  the match is played at Rugby Village Bridge Club.  The committee agreed to abide by their request and a TD will be present at the next match to be held at Debbie’s house.  The Village Pioneers have been informed of this.

An email has been received from Darren Everts querying if we are affiliated to Warwickshire and the EBU as currently we are listed under their unaffiliated section.  Liz to respond to Darren requesting information on the breakdown of costs for master points and to also find out any other benefits we may receive by being affiliated.

League Status:

All is running well and generally matches are being played within the time frame.  The Dunchurch Diamonds have dropped out of the league due to lack of players.

New handicap system:

Roger has requested copies of the handicap slips and results so that he can do an analysis of the Imps/VP’s ready for the next season.  JC/LE to provide the information.

End of season event:

To date we have 4 and a half teams entered and the other captains will be personally rung soon to see if we can obtain their commitment to entering a team.

Dave                      - agreed to approach Peter Langley direct to see if we can borrow the computer, bidding boxes, boards etc. for the event.

Dave/Roger        - will find out who is qualified to set up a ‘teams’ event on the computer for the day.

Jane                       - will provide the cakes

Jane/Liz                               - will organise the tea/coffees

Liz                           - will buy winners prizes

Debbie                                 - to organise the raffle and approach members to see if they will donate a prize.

All                          - to help set up on the day

AOB:

Due to other commitments they already have none of the existing league committee are able to take over the officer roles after the AGM when DW/JC/LE step down.

The committee are very grateful to Peter Baines who has volunteered to join the committee next season.

However, there was some considerable discussion as to whether or not the league had runs its course due to lack of interest from the teams:

  1. Supporting the summer event
  2. Joining the committee
  3. Perhaps having  too many bridge commitments already

The committee agreed to write directly to all Captains asking their views on whether or not they want the league to continue – and that following their responses the matter could be discussed in depth at the AGM in July.

Roger provided a list of equipment that all teams currently hold.

Liz confirmed the room has been booked at the Ex-Servicemen’s club for the AGM on Monday 6th July 7:00pm.

Date of next meeting:

Monday 18th May 2015 at 7:00pm at Roger’s house

Windy Harbour, Mill Road, Ullesthorpe LE17 5DE

Meeting closed at 8:30pm
