Welcome Letter

Rugby Bridge Club extends a very warm welcome to new players of all standards, including beginners.  The following provides information on the main activities of the Club and their cost, and tells you how to join.

OBJECTIVE

The Club’s main objective is to play duplicate bridge, endeavouring all the time to raise the standards both of play and etiquette.  We aim to provide a friendly, congenial atmosphere.  Harassment and other bad behaviour are specifically outlawed.

COSTS

Annual membership is £5, with table money being £2.50 for members at each session and £3.50 for non members.

CLUB MEETINGS

Players are requested to be at the venues not later than five minutes before the start of play so that our IT equipment can be set up.  All sessions have a host system, (except Wednesday) so anyone coming is guaranteed a game.

Members can play as often or as little as they wish (up to five times a week).

Friday afternoons at Clifton Townsend Memorial Hall, Main Street, Clifton-upon-Dunsmore, commencing at 1.30 p.m.   Relaxed duplicate bridge sessions, average five tables, and ideal for improvers.

Tuesday evenings at the Sacred Heart RC Church Hall, on the corner of Alwyn Road and Lime Tree Avenue, Bilton, commencing at 7.15 p.m.  This is the Club’s traditional evening where the play is faster, average ten tables.

Wednesday evenings at Clifton Townsend Memorial Hall at 7.00pm.Wednesdays are smaller groups of about five tables.

Thursday evenings at The Ex-Servicemen’s Club, Deerings Road in Hillmorton, commencing at 7.00 p.m.  Thursdays average nine tables.

Saturdays

The Saturday Training Workshop meets at Clifton Townsend Memorial Hall at 10.00 a.m. every Saturday morning (except the third Saturday in each month) and caters for improving players and beginners.  Its purpose is to introduce improvers to Duplicate Bridge and to enable them to feel confident to play at all the other sessions and Teams.  An improvers’ group runs continually.  In addition we hold starters’ courses for newcomers or those with little or no knowledge of bridge - these courses are held once a year and last approximately 13 weeks - at which point the newcomers become absorbed into the improvers’ group and progress to Wednesday evening or Friday afternoon sessions, then to Thursday and Tuesday evenings.

Troughers/Allott Evenings are held alternately on each third Saturday evening of the month at the Clifton Townsend Memorial Hall.  The evening starts with an optional meal at 6.00pm, followed by bridge at 7.00pm.  The Troughers event is a Teams evening with one pair being an experienced pair coupled with one pair of the less experienced players.  The Allott event is a Pairs evening.  Handicaps are given in both Troughers and Allott evenings.

SOCIAL EVENTS

We hold two “Fun” evenings of bridge (Chicago scoring) – one during the summer and one before Christmas – where players from all the sessions come together.

During January we hold our annual Dinner, when non-bridge playing partners are also invited.

LEAGUE MATCHES

During the period September to May the Club enters teams in the Rugby and District Bridge League and the Coventry Bridge League.  All members are encouraged to participate.

SMOKING

There is no smoking in the playing area.

NEWSLETTER / BULLETIN
