Move to Cymbeline Way
Move to Cymbeline Way

Members of your Committee and the Training Team have met to consider a move to the BEC Woodlands Facility, located at 53 Cymbeline Way, Woodlands Estate, Bilton.

It has been decided that, initially, the Friday afternoon, Saturday training sessions and the ‘Troughers’ evening will move to this location, with effect from Friday the 27th October, 2017.

Why are we attracted to this new venue;

  • The building is a single storey building, nicely presented and carpeted throughout.
  • It has all the facilities we require for our bridge sessions.
  • Whenever we are there we will be the only ones using the building.
  • The club will make a contribution to the BEC, for the use of their facilities which will be significantly less than what we pay at Clifton
  • It has its own car parking to take at least 20 cars, there are shops close by, together with the Fighting Cocks public house, should members wish to meet after bridge sessions to reflect on the bridge played or simply to socialise.

You may ask why we have made this decision.  There are a number of issues of concern about the Townsend Memorial Hall at Clifton-on-Dunsmore.

  • The room upstairs has no toilets, which are all located on the ground floor, and apart from the newly refurbished (single use) toilet, these are extremely poor.
  • There is no specified parking when we are using the hall for our bridge sessions.
  • The room upstairs is sometimes hired out on a Saturday which impacts on the training sessions and the availability of the toilets.
  • The hire charges are considered to be quite prohibitive at over £6,000 a year.
  • With the increased attendances at both the beginners’ classes and the improvers sessions, the downstairs rooms are inadequate, having insufficient space and are very cramped!
