BULLETIN No 3 - January 2015
The Management Committee would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year and hope you all had a good Christmas. We are looking forward to another enjoyable year of bridge.
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON
This new session will start on Wednesday 14th January, 2pm-4pm at Rogers Hall, Deerings Road. It is behind the Ex-Service Men’s Club, next to the playing field. There will be no Master Points, no Bridgemates. You will not require a partner, just come along for a pleasant afternoon of bridge with advice available from experienced players if required.
Players of all standards are welcome, please support this new venture.
PAIRS LEAGUE
The third round was completed on the 8th December in fine style and the competition is hotting up.
Craig and John still lead Division 1 and have in fact increased their lead over Sue and Wendy, who have a comfortable lead over the new third placed pair of Anne and Ken
Division 2 is turning out to be a fiercely competitive Division with Pam and Phil now taking over in first place, by a considerable margin over Marion and Clare who are closely followed by Paula and Neil.
Division 3 still sees Maria and David in the lead but this has been cut by Derek and Steve who had a great evening and a considerable gap has developed between Robert and Stuart in third place.
Thanks again to those who covered for colleagues and to Clare for providing the boards for the evening.
Graham is delighted that there is support for a Pairs League this year and he is going to plan for it to take place commencing in September.
The next round will take place on Monday 12th January at the Sacred Heart Church Bilton.
PREMISES
The Management Committee has been busy talking to no fewer than three organisations over the past month or two. Rugby Town Football Club on Butlin Road now boast an impressive hospitality suite which they are keen to hire out. Understandably, however, they are not at this stage willing to enter into the sort of long-term agreement we are looking for, preferring to test the market first.
We came close to a deal with Rugby Town Junior Football Club a few years ago for the long-term use of the large room in their club house off Kilsby Lane. Many will remember the trial bridge evening we held there. The Club’s relationship with Rugby Borough Council was a problem then but is expected to change shortly. We have not yet discussed financial terms with the Club but are willing to do so.
At the moment, the proposal we favour is an extremely long-term agreement with Laurentians Sports Club, on Lime Tree Avenue, slightly further along than the Sacred Heart Church. They are proposing to build a large new function room as an extension to their existing club house and this would be ideal for our purposes. Negotiations suggest that it should be possible to reach agreement with them for the benefit of both parties. Planning permission will be sought soon, so watch this space.
Needless to say, we will not enter into any commitment without the blessing of our members. When the time is right and a proposal has been firmed up, we will issue a full report and hold a General Meeting to allow all members to have their say.

NGS RESULTS AT END OF 2014
NGS the National; Grading System is maintained by the EBU to reflect a summary of your recent performances. It reflects not only how well you scored but takes into account the strength of your partner and that of opposing players too. Below is a table of RBS members who have played sufficiently often to make the Competition results on one or more of our Tuesday, Thursday and Friday sessions and have a grade of 50% or more at the end of 2014.

COVENTRY LEAGUE
Rugby A lost their last match 7-5 against Wyken who had a star-studded team including John Pyner, Maggs Margetts and Mike and Elayne Meakin.
The highlights of Rugby’s performance was a double game swing on on board and a 6 diamonds doubled contract which made. Our team was Marion, Chris, Clare and John Drake.
We hope you prefer this way of presenting our news (although it involves more work).
We need your news and views so please send these to Wendy or David Hicks or David Owen.
Happy Bridging
