On Saturday 27 January at 6.00pm the club will be hosting a charity event in aid of the Princess Alice hospice. For those of you who have not heard of this hospice, it is a local charity dedicated to providing free, high quality compassionate palliative care for patients, and support for their families and carers. The hospice cares for people living in a large part of Surrey, south-west London and Middlesex. The event is being organised by Susan Cummins, a Richmond member, and is being catered for by our own excellent Laura. The menu will include salmon, potatoes and a selection of salads followed by frangipane tartlet with pistachios. There will be prizes and master points as normal for the winners and a raffle will be held on the night. The cost including bridge is £25.00 with all profits going to this wonderful hospice. Please book by clicking here. Please note that cancellations with less than 72 hours' notice will be expected to pay in full. We would appeal to our members to support this wonderful charity.
Richmond Bridge Club is housed in the old Bowling Club Pavilion in Cambridge Park, nestling between Richmond and Twickenham in South-West London. The Clubhouse and the Club are now dedicated solely to Bridge.
We offer a full range of duplicate bridge playing facilities from Monday to Friday, some Saturday Evenings and Sunday afternoons. The club also offers lessons for players of all standards to learn bridge as a beginner or to improve their bridge with various Refresher and Intermediate courses. Afternoon sessions start promptly at 1.45pm (start-time on Sundays is 2.30pm); in the evenings, play begins at 7.30pm. Special events are often held at weekends. The Club is affiliated to the Surrey County Bridge Association and the English Bridge Union.
Computer-dealt hands (with printed hand copies available after play) and the "Bridgemate" wireless scoring system (giving you instant results as you play) are used for all sessions.
The Clubhouse, extensively refurbished in 2002, is now probably one of the finest in Surrey and we can accommodate 34-35 tables.
We are pleased to announce a bridge weekend exclusively for Richmond members at Denham Grove on 26-28 January 2018. We are delighted to welcome back international bridge player Stefan Skorchev to our club. He is hosting two declarer play courses aimed at Gentle players <=10, although everyone is welcome to attend. You may recall Stefan recently took us through Pre-Empts which received excellent reviews. Stefan believes that these 2 new topics will surely improve your results significantly Each course is stand alone, so you can attend either but of course you will benefit hugely by attending both. In response to some of your comments we are trying something new and unique to the club. The first seminar Declarer Play in Trumps will be on Saturday 3 February starting at 10.30am. We will stop for a light lunch of sandwiches and soup at around 12.30- 1.00pm and the seminar will continue afterwards finishing around 3.00pm. The cost of your lunch, coffee and tea and notes is included in the price of £30.00. The second seminar on Saturday 10 February is Declarer Play in No Trumps and the format and price will be the same. If you book both seminars you will get a special discounted price of £55.00. Money will be taken on the day and those booking both seminars will be expected to pay on day one to get the discount. I would remind you that other clubs are charging well in excess of a £100 for this type of event. We will be using a large screen so players will be able to see clearly. Please book quickly to avoid disappointment. You do not need a partner to attend these seminars. Please book by clicking the links below.

On Sunday 11 February at 1.00pm we will be holding another one of our popular blue pointed Swiss Pairs. Licensed by the EBU to county level and directed by Richard Banbury, there will be 6X8 board matches with a top prize of £250.00 with smaller cash prizes for second and third. Entry fee is £15.00 each £30.00 a pair. Money will be collected on the day. Please book by clicking here. These events always fill up quickly so early booking is advised.
We have introduced a new feature on the website to enable you to find a partner. Instructions were sent out to all members last week and can also be found by clicking here. These instructions are also displayed on the notice board at the club.
We have a new sign to help you know where to park in the Bowling Club. When you enter the car park and see this sign facing the entrance you know that you cannot park in that row. When not applicable we hope to turn it round so that the words are no longer showing as you come in but are facing the car park spaces themselves. Some of you have got confused by this. The sign ONLY APPLIES if you can see the words when you drive in to the car park.
All players should be seated at least 10 minutes before the session starts. Arriving late without warning is rude, and should be avoided if at all possible. If you are delayed en-route to a session, please be sure to call and tell us so that we may reserve space for you in the movement (or inform your waiting partner), otherwise you risk a wasted journey.
I am delighted to tell you that, that for the 7th year in succession we are again the best attended affiliated club in the country. (2010-2016). Please see EBU website for the list of clubs. It looks like we may be creating some sort of record so long may it continue. We know this would not be possible without the support of our incredibly loyal and wonderful members. We will continue to work as hard as possible to maintain the high level of service you so deserve.
Please note we are now allowed to park in the bowling club car park week days from 7.00pm. We are keen to be good neighbours and if you use the car park you will leave more spaces for local residents. If you cannot park in the car park please park on the bowling club side of the road. Do not park on the residential side of the road or in Fairlawns (the small crescent on the left). We appreciate your help.
