Friday Evening   Saturday Afternoon   Saturday Evening   Sunday

Well done to our first winners; Yellow section, NS Jeanie Tripp & Gordon Tripp, EW Diana Gardner & Ann Binder and the Green Section Jo Beadle & Anthea Hinchcliffe.

Saturday afternoon
Yellow section - NS: Tracey Reimer & Marilyn Plummer  EW: Ann Binder & Joan Coppin
Green Section – NS: Trixie Muirhead & Chandra Patel  EW: Anthea Hinchcliffe & Jo Beadle

Saturday evening
Teams - Lyn Poole, Glen Kirton, Tracey Reimer, Marilyn Plummer
and Green section - Chandra Patel & Elaine Mullen

On Friday Evening, Elwyn and Kathryn started in great style, the only pair to bid 6 diamonds on board 20. They did it in their own style:
Kathryn (West) opened 1D – only 11 points, but the hand satisfies the ‘rule of 20’. The tens and nines also make this hand better than the point count suggests.
Partner opening the bidding was enough for Elwyn. He launched into Blackwood (I would have made a quiet 1H response first), and when Kathryn showed two aces, bid 6D.
Some Easts might consider bidding 6NT, because it outscores 6D. Once you eliminate the diamond ace, you have 11 top tricks. Playing in No Trumps, you have to try the spade finesse for the twelfth – unlucky! Playing in diamonds you can ruff your fourth club in dummy for the 12th trick.
