President's Message
President's Message

Our 2nd Annual Bridge Congress was held on Sunday 2nd October 2016.  104 players from all over Victoria attended.  The standard of players who attended was very high so many a challenge was held at the bridge table. Congratulations to winners of all sections.   A special thanks must go to the RACV Club and its members events team - in particular Claire McParland -  for their assistance in making the day such a success.

We are now in the last quarter of 2016.  Christmas will be here before we know it.   It is always an exciting time leading up to Christmas.  The Bridge Club will hold its annual Christmas Luncheon on Wednesday 14th December, 2016 following the regular Wednesday duplicate bridge session.  This is the last bridge duplicate session for 2016.  Bridge will recommence in mid January 2017.   Details of arrangements for bridge and our Christmas Luncheon will be emailed to all bridge club members at the end of October.

For RACV Club members who are interested in playing or learning bridge there are plenty of opportunities to do so in the Club Room at the City Club.  The RACV Bridge Club is friendly and inviting and new members and their guests are always welcome.  Varying levels of bridge are available at the City Club from beginners' lessons to competitive duplicate sessions and monthly bridge workshops.  The Club environment  is safe and comfortable and many new friendships have been made at the bridge table.  Our aim at the Club is for all members and  guests to enjoy their bridge no matter what level of bridge they play. The bridge table not only offers the game of bridge but a chance to meet and socialise with like-minded members and their guests.

Looking forward to welcoming you to the bridge club.

2015 Club Award Presentations

The RACV bridge club has celebrated a successful year of Bridge in 2015 over an excellent lunch with great company.

In early 2013 Gerald Snowden, the first president of the RACV Bridge Club, presented the inaugural trophy in memory of his wife, Patricia Snowden, who was one of the first members of the Club and played until 2011.  This cup is awarded annually to the best player at the RACV Bridge Club.

The winner this year is Tony D'Apice - a deserving recipient after a consistent year of good bridge, with Steve Gapper a nearby second.  Gerald is shown at left presenting the trophy.

Congratulations to all who scored in our Club rankings in a very competitive room.

The photo below shows Tony being congratulated by our previous winner, Frank Vearing.   Frank had valuable advice for Tony on how to manage the sudden fame and adulation from achieving this award.

The award for Most Improved player went to Richard Fitzherbert, who has made a transition in from supervised bridge to playing at the most competitive club level.
The most improved players from the Monday Supervised group received Ben's Most Inspired Learner award:  congratulations to Robyn Crozier and Johanneke Woskoboenko.

There was acknowledgement of the effort and contribution of our President, Mary Stoney, Secretary Sue Condos, the Committee, and the teaching by Ben and Ruth Kingham.
