| Monday Prize Night 'Handicaps' |
 Prizes for a Monday night are awarded after the following 'handicap' criteria have been applied:
Monday Handicap consists of a deduction of 5% for each and every prize won by any SPECIFIC PAIR over the preceding 11 months.
The fact that one or both of the individuals may have won a prize or prizes with other partners is not taken into account.
Only the track record of that SPECIFIC PAIR is counted for handicap calculation.

| EBU Announcements |
The EBU have updated their rules for Announcements and Alerts (see Menu Item on left for full details).
The principal changes are:
. the point range for a 2NT opening should be ANNOUNCEd
. Stayman and transfers should now be ANNOUNCE'd over 2NT as well as 1NT
. artificial 'first round' SUIT bids above 3NT should be ALERTed
. the rules for ALERTing doubles of suit bids have been clarified
(basically, ALERT if it is NOT for take-out below 3NT; or is NOT for a penalty above 3NT - though its not quite as simple as that!)
At Purley, we believe it is friendlier not to enforce these rules rigourously, but we do encourage their use. In particular, there is no need to announce NT openings if they are standard ACOL (ie 12-14 points for 1NT and 20-22 for 2NT). If you believe your opponents haven't followed the correct procedure, then it is best to courteously ask for clarification of the pertinent bid at your turn to bid or before the lead to the first trick.
