| PRESIDENT'S GOLF DAY |
 |
Twenty three members gathered at Lytham Green Drive Golf Club for what proved to be a most enjoyable days golf. We played in glorious sunshine with a cooling wind and everyone completed the 18 holes in one piece, although one or two ( no names mentioned) were suffering with a few aches and pains!! After completion of the round we all enjoyed a drink or two sat outside the clubhouse with the sun beating down and the presentation of prizes took place outside. It had been a very close game and the winners won on acpo.
The triumphant pair were Jackie Clarkson and Jeff Wilkins and the unlucky runners up were Diane Turner and Judy Dorrity, third place were Carolyn Coleman and Keith Stewart. Nearest the pin prize went to Linda Haworth.
I want to thank everyone that took part, it was lovely to witness members enjoying the company of people they had not played bridge with and new friendships formed.
The feeling amongst the group was that the event should definitely be repeated and that sentiment was enough for me to count the day a success! Thanks one and all.

| WINTER BRIDGE RETREATS AT A WEST SOMERSET HOTEL |
One of the great attractions of bridge is that players can enjoy the challenge of a game in differing surroundings and in November 2016 and January and February 2017 the Yarn Market Hotel in the medieval village of Dunster in West Somerset has a special offer for groups of four or more bridge playing guests.
Based on bookings of 4 players or more the costs per person per night are as follows:- November and February:- £63 (for a three night stay), £60 (5 nights) £58 (7 nights) January:- £59 (three nights), £56 (5 nights) £54 (7 nights). There are no single supplements and the price includes dinner, bed and breakfast.
The Yarn Market is a 3 Star hotel with 28 en-suite rooms and is situated on the main street of the village which is overlooked by the castle, which in the current part of its 1000 year history is in the care of the National Trust. The village also has a working water mill, the old Yarn Market building itself from which the hotel takes its name, a packhorse bridge, tithe barn and a fine example of a village church. Followers of the David Suchet “Poirot” series will find themselves in surroundings that may seem a little familiar as Dunster was the setting for “The Cornish Mystery” episode. (Yes it is a fair distance from West Somerset to Cornwall but film units work to a logic of their own when selecting locations.)
The players will have a room set aside for their use when playing so that rubbers can take place at times of their choosing. However West Somerset has a notably mild climate (the first daffodils regularly appear before Christmas) and apart from exploring the village itself there are opportunities to get out and about to explore. There are local walks of varying distances for which the hotel can supply maps and advice and although the breaks are outside of the main season hotel staff can also advise what attractions are open (and in some cases what discounts are available at these for Yarn Market Hotel guests).
To learn more or to book call 01643 821425 (and a real live human being will answer. Not a robot telling you to start pressing buttons). Or e-mail hotel@yarnmarkethotel.co.uk. The website is www.yarnmarkethotel.co.uk. Please quote “Bridge Retreat) when making contact.
