Minutes of the Board Meetings

At the moment the minutes are always a month behind in publication as they have to be approved at the next meeting by Board Members. It has been discussed to approve a quicker method of letting the Members have the minutes sooner, this should be in effect in the near future.

Meanwhile the Chairman will issue a News Flash should there be any urgent item that the members should be notified.

HOW TO REGISTER ON THE WEBSITE FOR A PARTNER IN A COMPETITION OR A REGULAR PLAY SESSION AT THE CLUB
HOW TO REGISTER  ON THE WEBSITE FOR A PARTNER IN A COMPETITION OR A REGULAR PLAY SESSION AT THE CLUB

1.  Log onto the website in the usual manner.

2.  Click on ‘membership’ on the left hand column.

3.  The tab ‘Find a Partner’ will come up, so fill in the details, not forgetting to Confirm on the bottom right, then at the top left of the page.

4.  To see who wants a Partner or who has signed up for a competition, click on Calendar, on the left hand column of the Home Page.  This shows all the competitions. 

5.  Click on ‘Bookings’.  This shows who is looking for a Partner/Who is playing in that particular Competition

If you are looking for a partner for any regular session at the Club, Go into 'Membership', and click on the tab 'Messages'. Here you can leave any message for Club Members.

Another way to find a partner is to contact Barbara Cain, who is acting as the Co-ordinator.

Please note that if you are signing up for a competition either on the Website or on the Notice Board at the Club, the TD's need 48 hours notice before the event in order to set up the boards and movement according to how many people are playing.

Library & Magazines

There is an extensive library of Bridge books for members to borrow.  This is located in the Teaching Room.

Please use the Library Book to register your name & the book you have borrowed.

There are a number of EBU Bridge magazines available in the main room underneath the notice board.

MICHAEL BYRNE LECTURE

It has been arranged by the Committee that Michael Byrne will be giving a lecture in the evening of Thursday 28th March.

All members are invited to attend.

It is free for members & £10 for non-members, subject to available space.

The time will be confirmed at a later date.

ASSISTED PLAY SESSIONS

From Wednesday 16thJanuary on alternate Wednesday evenings there will be an extra session of assisted play held in the teaching room.

This is intended for members who have attended our beginners classes, or the improver sessions run last Autumn. 

The session will use randomly dealt boards and play will proceed like a main session with about 7 minutes a board. There will be an experienced player running the evening. The boards will be discussed and questions answered and interesting points of bridge highlighted. The aim is to help the confidence of players and get them into playing in the main room on a regular basis. You do not need a partner to come to the event. 

We look forward to seeing you on the 16thJanuary at 7.15 p.m. for a 7.30 p.m. start.

The regular teams event will continue in the main room and we want to see as many of you as possible coming to that on the alternate Wednesday evenings. 

SUNDAY BRIDGE

ON JANUARY 6th, WE ARE STARTING A SESSION ON SUNDAY AFTERNOONS FOR A TRIAL PERIOD. 

THE USUAL ARRANGEMENTS - 1.15 p.m. FOR A 1.30 p.m. START.

Poulton Bridge Club is situated in the centre of Poulton-le-Fylde, which is located 3 miles north of Blackpool. The Club has approximately 300 members who own the Club. There are two rooms for playing bridge. The main Bridge Room can facilitate 20 tables and there are 10 tables in a smaller room (which is the Teaching Room). We offer courses for 'Beginners' and 'Improvers'. There is parking for around 20 cars & further parking within 25 yards of the Club.  Within five minutes walk from the Club there are plenty of dining facilities including a Weatherspoon's pub called The Poulton Elk, which is at the rear of the car park.

The club benefits from air conditioning and disabled access.

Smoking is not allowed within the building. 

Duplicate Bridge sessions are as follows.

Monday        ... 1.30 p.m. and evening 7.30 p.m.

Tuesday       ... 7.30 p.m.

Wednesday    ... 1.30 p.m. and evening 7.15 p.m.  Evening session is Teams of 4.

Thursday      ... 7.30 p.m.

Friday         ... 1.30 p.m. and evening 7.30 p.m.

Saturday      ... 7.30 p.m.

Cost of duplicate sessions is £2.00. per person for members and £3.20 for guests. Tea/coffee and biscuits are served at the table during play.

Visitors are more than welcome. Please be seated at least 10 minutes before session starts, so the TD can work out the movement according to the number of players.

Scoring is via BRIDGEMATE and results are available within 5 minutes of the last board being played.

This has been organised to help members who would like to play on a Monday evening but do not have a partner.

The Committee are pleased to announce that a unanimous vote was taken to elect

Dr Les Hoy as the President for the year 2019.

 

 

They would also like to thank Faith Mounsey for all her efforts & support as President in 2018.

 

A REMINDER OF SEATING AT THE CLUB

 Everyone who intends to play in a session must be in the Club premises at least 10 minutes before play begins.

 They should then take their places when asked to by the TD.

This is to assist the TD in working out the movement according to the number of attendees.

 

ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTIONS DUE IN SEPTEMBER

REMINDER OF ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP PAYMENT!!

These were due on September 1st.  Please check the Club Notice Board for methods of paying.

The cost of the Annual Membership is £20.

This should have been paid by 31st October.

As it is now past the due date, any subscriptions paid now will be £40.

This fee is the Annual Fee plus a Rejoining Fee.

 

PRESIDENT'S CHARITY EVENT

 

 

NORTH WEST AIR AMBULANCE CHARITY

This charity has been chosen by last year's President, John Whitaker.

The event was on Tuesday evening 6th November and the cheque for £1940.00 was presented to the charity on Thursday. The charity's fundraiser was pleasantly surprised & very grateful for all the money raised.

The evening was very successful with 19 tables & lots of good raffle prizes.

John would like to thank everyone involved in making the evening a big success.

The team comprised of Shirley Dobson, Eileen Johnson, Paul Dunstan, Jonathan Thompson, Peter Young, Ken Dugdale, Guy Benson, Alun Williams with John Whitaker as the League Organiser for Poulton Bridge Club.  This team will now be promoted to the Second Division.  Well done!!

AN HISTORICAL RECORD OF THE CLUB

There is book kept in the safe at the Club which documents an abbreviated history of the Club and its events listed in the Board Meetings & AGM's.  This is from the Clubs' beginning in 1952 until 2017.

A copy of this is now on the website under Club History on the left hand column.  This is for Members only so you will have to log on with your registered email address & password.
