Bridge Classes 2013-14
Want  to learn to play Bridge?
Autumn classes start week beginning 7th October 2013.
Absolute Beginners i.e.1st year will be held on Monday afternoons 2-4 p.m.
2nd year also moved to Monday afternoons 2-4 p.m.
3rd year moved to Tuesday afternoons 2-4p.m. starting 8th October.
4th year (ex 3rd yr with Ian)  stays on Tuesday Mornings 10-12p.m. starting 8th Oct
Ian's pp on Wed and Fridays are unaltered starting 9th October

COMPETITION RULES 2013-14


The Club Committee reserves the right to vary the conditions set out below if circumstances make it necessary and empower the TD to do so if in his/her opinion it is needed.

 In all CLUB competitions only Full Members may qualify for a prize.

On Tuesday & Thursday Pairs Competitions Visitors & Associate Members may play but not Enter.

Players are required to Enter their names on the list in any competition where they wish to have their overall scores recorded.


In all pairs competitions a Mitchell movement will normally be used unless numbers are low when in the opinion of the Tournament Director so few pairs are playing that a more meaningful result will be achieved by a Howell movement.

24/26 boards will normally be the minimum numbers of boards in circulation.


Team competitions will normally be scored by IMPs converted to VPs on each evening.  Rules for specific team competitions are given below but please note they are subject to change if authorised by the TD.


Constitutional Trophy: 
Club Championship (Match-Points)

Played over 9 rounds with all scores counting and a minimum of 6 rounds played to qualify. Visitors & Associates may play but not Enter.


Cross-Imp Pairs (Aggregate) converted to IMPS

To be played over 9 rounds on the 3rd Thursday of the month except for September, December & April.

All scores to count with a minimum of 5 rounds required to qualify.

    Visitors & Associates may play but not Enter.


Mary Batho Trophy (Mixed Pairs) (Match-Points)

A Howell movement will be used unless numbers dictate otherwise.

Non-mixed pairs. Visitors & Associates may play but not Enter.

A one night competition next played on 20th March 2014. 


                       Meg Fisher (Aggregate)                                

An aggregate competition played over 12 rounds on 1st Tuesday of every month.

All scores to count with a minimum of 7 rounds required to qualify. Visitors & Associates may play but not Enter.


Miller Trophv (Individual) Match-Points

To be played in September: An individual event played over one round using simple systems. To be played on 3rd October 2013.

This is also a qualifying Competition for the Central District.

Entries may be limited to suit Movements available.


Jean Paton Competition (Match-Points)

To be played on the 3rd and 4th Tuesday Club Nights of each month. 

The best 8 scores of any pair combination to count. Visitors and Associates may play but not Enter.


Simple Svstems (Match-Points)

To be played over 12 rounds onthe 2nd or Tuesday of every month.

All scores to count with a minimum of 7 rounds required to qualify. Visitors & Associates may play but not Enter.


Sexy Pairs (Match-Points)

To be played on 9th January 2014 & open to Ladies, Gents or mixed pairs.

There will be two winners: Ladies’ Pair & Gents’ Pair.     


Tayside Salver (Match-Points)

Played over 15 rounds  with the best 8 rounds to qualify and count. Visitors & Associates may play but not Enter.


Challenge Trophy - Teams of Four Club Championship 

(IMPs converted to VPs)

Full members only. To be played over four rounds in Oct to. Dec.

Substitutes are permitted butare not then considered team members.

Teams must at all times include at least 50% of the original entered team*


*A handicap event, known as the EWING TROPHY will run concurrently with this competition.  Please note that the Handicap Committee reserves the right to alter any handicap if substitutes are introduced.

Scores will be in IMPs and converted to VPs each evening.


Balthayock Salver (Revolving Teams of Four)

Full members only. To be played over three rounds in February & March.

No team member may play with the same player more than once.
Substitutes are permitted, but are not then considered team members.

Teams must at all times include at least 50% of the original entered team.

Scores will be in IMPs and converted to VPs each evening.


Strathearn Quaich (Teams) IMPs converted to VPs

All Members. A Team of Four event played on Thursday 3rd April 2014.

Entered pairs will be seeded and then balloted to produce Teams of Four.

 

Stanley Barker Trophy (Teams of Four - Swiss) IMPs converted to VPs


All Members.  A Swiss Team of Four event played in August.

An all-play-all format is acceptable should numbers dictate.


League Trophy

Open Competition, run by Perthshire Bridge League.  To be played over two rounds in April.

Entry limited to 15 teams. One team from the Ladies Afternoon Club and the remainder from the Perthshire Bridge League and Perth Bridge Club.


Harry Stephen Memorial Trophy (Invitation Teams of Four) 

IMPs converted to VPs

This is a single session eventplayed on Sunday 27th October. Teams from out with the Club are invited by the Club Committee. Teams from the Club may enter, but as there is a maximum of 14 teams permitted, Club teams may have to play in a qualifying competition. (The Club President's Team is exempt from qualifying).

The entry fee will be          per player and a meal will be provided. Play starts at 2pm.


Bunty Burns Memorial Trophy (Invitation Ladies Teams of Four) 

IMPs converted to VPs

This is a single session event played on  Sunday 4th August similar to the Harry Stephen Trophy.

The entry fee will be     per player and a meal will be provided. Play starts at 2pm.


Central District Competitions


Pairs (Qualifying) Match-Points

To be played over eight roundswith the best five rounds to count. This Competition runs concurrently withrounds 1 - 8 of the Constitutional trophy.

The Entry fee is set by the Central District.


Individual (Qualifying) Match-Points

The Miller Trophy competition constitutes a qualifying round for this competition.



Scottish Bridge Union: Bobby Allan Trophy : Match-Points
