Coaching Session by Liz McGowan
Sunday 28th April 2019
Perth Bridge Club is pleased to announce that Liz McGowan, possibly the most successful ‘home grown’ bridge player ever to represent Scotland is coming to PBC.
Liz is running coaching sessions and all monies raised will be donated by Liz to help finance the Scottish Ladies Bridge Team when they go to China to represent Scotland in the World Championships. This is a first for the Scottish Ladies Team.
Liz will concentrate on Card Play, which after all distinguishes the ‘Best from the rest’ !
Concentrating on card play, also means that her sessions will interest and benefit us all regardless of the bidding systems we use.
There will be two sessions. The first will be set at an Intermediate level, the second will follow on from this to take us into more advanced play techniques.
Morning session 10.00hrs to 12.15hrs
Afternoon session 13.30hrs to 15.45hrs
Perth Bridge Club members are welcome to attend one or both sessions. Each session will be limited to 24 places. The price will be £10 per person per session.
The morning session concentrates on ‘trick taking’ – Looking at various key card combinations, finesse techniques, with a side issue of hand evaluation by trick-taking potential.
There will be a short chat. The key elements of which will be emphasised using PowerPoint, there will be an opportunity to ask Liz questions.
Then there is a Quiz which the braver souls amongst us will relish and creating a route into the subsequent discussion
Liz will have prepared 8 hands for us to play. The whole session is scheduled for 2 hours with a 15-minute time allowance should there be any overrun.
A Lunch Break between the sessions.
(Anyone attending both sessions should bring their own lunch)
For the afternoon session Liz will focus more on defence. Technique rather than signalling.
Probably starting with a few problems that Liz will work through with us together. Again, there will be a Quiz and discussion, then some hands to play
Perhaps 12 hands depending upon how the ‘enemy’ goes!
Again, we have allowed 15 minutes in the event of an overrun
To reserve a place there is a booking form on the Club Notice Board at King Street
or complete this short form which will be sent to the organiser of this event - Mr George Roberts
