TEACHING / BRIDGE LESSONS

PLEASE REGISTER YOUR INTEREST EARLY TO RESERVE A PLACE ON COURSES - EVEN IF DATES ARE NOT YET FIXED - AS OUR COURSES ARE USUALLY MORE THAN FULLY SUBSCRIBED.

The Club periodically offers three friendly bridge courses, plus some ad-hoc seminars.  Our Stage 1 and Stage 2 courses are held over a weekend *; and include free club membership where follow up gentle bridge with coaching and supervised play sessions will be held. Further details, dates and availability are given below when known. All courses and supervised play sessions are run by qualified bridge teachers and experienced players to assist and coach attendees. The courses are popular so booking early is recommended as places are limited. Please use the CONTACT US selection on our web site Home page to register your interest on any of our courses.  Course times will be confirmed but usually are approximately 0945 - 1630 with mid-morning, lunch and mid-afternoon breaks.

Stage 1  -  We shall be holding our next "Stage 1" weekend * course on 28th February (6.45pm - 1000pm) ; 29th February (9.30am - 4.30pm) ; 1st March (9.30am - 4.30pm) at Lower Moor Village Hall. This course is specifically designed for those who have never played bridge before, or only have a very rudimentary knowledge of it, and wish to learn the basics of the game over a FAST TRACK, intensive week-end that will introduce you to the game of bridge and get you playing!  Thereafter, experienced teachers and players will guide you through optional post-course supervised play sessions (£2-50 per session) - these are likely to be held on Tuesday evenings for 11 weeks followed by 4 weeks on a Wednesday evening at the Club. The weekend course fee of £70  includes all tuition, English Bridge Union course book (value £30, notes and refreshments throughout but bring your own packed lunch. ALL OUR PREVIOUS COURSES WERE MORE THAN FULLY SUBSCRIBED so please register your interest early.

Stage 2 -  We shall be holding our next "Stage 2" Next Steps weekend * course on the 16th and 17th May 2020. This course builds upon what players have learnt from Stage 1 and is also designed for those who are "rusty" and want to get back to the game and wish to refresh their knowledge of BASIC ACOL. The course will include:  Acol weak NT refresher; Stayman; Transfers; Slam bidding; Weak 2's, 2C and 2NT openings and responses (covered in basic form in Stage 1). Additional subjects of leads and discards may be provided if time permits. The course will also include getting students acquainted with modern aspects of the game such as bidding boxes, pre-dealt boards and Bridgemate scoring. Cost of £45 will include full course notes and refreshments throughout - but bring a packed lunch. Experienced teachers and players will guide you through optional post-course supervised play sessions (£3-00 per session) that will be held on Tuesday evenings for 8 weeks, commencing 19th May. For those progressing well there will be opportunities to play in the club on a Wednesday evening paired with an experienced player as mentor / buddy. OUR LAST COURSE WAS MORE THAN FULLY SUBSCRIBED so please register your interest early.

Stage 3 - for experienced club members who want to learn some more advanced conventions systems and play. (usually a one day seminar)

Ad-hoc day sessions of supervised playing Gentle Bridge for those Stage 1 and 2 students and anyone who wishes to practice more. Our last day session was June 9 2019.  All boards will be pre-dealt and geared to subjects covered in Stage 1 and Stage 2 courses. Cost will be £10 or below and will include refreshments throughout but bring your own packed lunch. Experienced teachers and players will be on hand to help and / or "buddy" players.
