Once again we were delighted to welcome 11 teams to the October Tournament. In additon to Peace Members we had players from Pissouri, Limassol and Kouklia .It was a pleasure to play with our Club mates and new players.       

We had a most unusual situation where we had a first equal, The Mongrels, Brian Chalcraft, Rob Bates, Liz Cunningham and John Pickard were first equal with Nemesis, Rena Lordos, Rona Baroudi, Lise Asland and Inge Bjerkstrand. Third place was The Brave Knaves, Corinne Moore, Paul Jones, Mike Mathers and Avril Ronald. Congratulations to you all.

We would like to express our thanks to the Kamares Club staff who served a delicious lunch and were extremely helpful throughout the whole event.

We look forward to having another tournament sometime in the new year. We hope you can join us then.

We are pleased to announce that the group of bridge players who played  at the Kamares Club on Thursday mornings, have voted 2 to 1 to join Peace. We welcome all of them.

This amalgamation will help with resources of equipment but more than anything will provide a of pool of people who are willing and capable of directing and operating the bridgemates system.

Separate, but concurrently, Peggy Lightfoot and Rob Bates will commence a beginners/improvers class on Thursday mornings. The date of starting this will be announced shortly so if you are interested or know of anyone who is interested, please let us know.

We hope that after some teaching by Rob and Peggy, the people who have taken the classes can start playing duplicate on Thursday mornings.

We were privileged to have David and Mari Jones, Chief EBU directors,  teach 10 of us the art of directing. This was a 4 day course with homework and an assesment at the end.

We were delighted when 9 Peace members, Peggy Lightfoot, Janet Tupper, Sue Birchall, Mike Heap, Bobby Jones, Grace Cullen all passed. David Cullen, Brian Chalcraft and Ian Hines passed with distinction.

The leader of the beginner's group Dale Ikin, also passed. We would like to thank David and Mari for their patience and willingness to share their considerable knowledge with us.

We have now used the Dealer 4 for more than 18 months. We still believe it was the right thing to do for the Club. Hope you agree.

This machine along with the hand generating programme, BigDeal and/or its own Dealer 4 generator will not only create the board set, it will also analyse the boards to show all possible contracts, keep a record of all of the hands and physically deal the hands into the boards.

If you would like to see a demonstration of how the machine works, please ask David, Peggy or Grace.

The hand analysis with be uploaded onto the Peace Bridge Club web page along with the results and travellers for that session at the end of each session.

This would appear to have been a great success.

It was a little more expensive for the guests than we had hoped but the buffet was very good.

We are always conscious of the costs and Kamares Club know this although we think they provided a good service on the day.

To be held at Kamares Club a waiter served dinner with music to dance the night away.

Dress code: black tie/lounge suits -

After consultation, we have re-booked Dominic to provide the entertainment.

Buffet Lunch -4 courses, starters, main, dessert and cheese board. Water on the tables. Other drinks at personal discretion. Entry fees -Playing Guests, €20, Peace Members €18.00, Lunch guests €15.00.

We are delighted at the response to this event.

As I write, we have more than 30 people participating in bridge and cruising Greece and Turkey. In addition we are please to let you know that Phillipos Frangos will be on board to give us lessons and advice. Philippos will not play unless someone asks him to do so but irrespective, he will not be eligible for a prize.

The price includes an all inclusive drinks package, alcoholic and soft drinks. In addition because of the numbers we are now able to offer a free coach service to and from  the Thomson 'Spirit'. We will discuss with those of you who are cruising where you would like the coach to leave/arrive from in Paphos. The suggestions from the tour company are either at the harbour (beside the entrance to the mosaics) or at Debenhams at the big roundabout. We will decide on which is more suitable on the basis of your input.

Just to remind you, we are planning to have 8 bridge sessions during the week of the cruise. Members of Peace can choose to play as few or as many of these sessions as they choose but to qualify for prizes you must play 5 of the 8 sessions. These sessions will be duplicate bridge, scored with the bridgemates and cards dealt with the Dealer 4. With the current number of participants we beleive that we will have around 6 tables per session.

For those Peace members who have left the island, either temporarily or permanently, this would be a great opportunity to catch up with your friends.
