THE LONGEST DAY - Alzheimer's Association

Williamsburg and Hampton Roads Bridge Raise More Than $11,500

for Alzheimer’s Association

Bridge players across Hampton Roads raised funds for “The Longest Day”, the Alzheimer's Association’s signature fundraising event to fight Alzheimer's disease.  The Alzheimer’s Association provides support and care for those who suffer from the disease and funds research for a cure.  For the past seven years the American Contract Bridge League has partnered with the Alzheimer’s Association to raise funds for The Longest Day, held around the summer solstice, by playing bridge and reaching out to donors to support this important cause.  This year the Williamsburg and Hampton Roads bridge community held events over two days. Bridge players and Mah-Jongg players raised over $11,500 including donations from family and friends.  Jordan Storm and Betsy Overkamp-Smith from the Southeast Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association attended two of the events.

The local business community provided door prizes for the three main events.  Harris Teeter and The Fresh Market provided lunch for the game at Fords Colony. Bridge and Mah-Jongg player enjoyed a buffet dinner at Two Rivers Country Club in Governor’s Land.  The Peninsula Bridge Center in Hampton treated bridge players to an ice cream social.

Businesses that donated gift certificates or products include:  Anderson’s Home & Garden Showplace, Atir Natural Nail Care Clinic, Blue Talon Restaurant, Bonefish Grill, Center Street Grill, Dog Street Pub, Edible Arrangements, Fords Colony Country Club, Harris Teeter at Quarterpath Crossing, Governor’s Green, and Lightfoot, Marvelous Nails, Office Depot, Opus 9 Steakhouse, Party City, Posh Salon, Salon Vivace, Seasons of Williamsburg, Target, The Fresh Market, The Precious Gem, TJ Maxx, Trader Joe’s, Wal-Mart, The Wine Seller, and, Wild Bird’s Unlimited.  The event organizers thank the participants and business for making this a hugely successful event.

PARKING FOR WILLIAMSBURG LANDING GAME

********************************************************************************************************************************************

On Tuesdays,  please drive past the main entrance to the Landing and take your next left--towards the Williamsburg Airport.  You will come to a gravel parking lot on the left-hand side of the road.  (Go past the entrance with the gate on the left-hand side.)  Park here and follow the sidewalk to the main building and playing area.  We will have our regular game in the auditorium, which is right next to the back entrance where you will come into the building.

VERY, VERY IMPORTANT:  After the game on 22 Oct, I was informed by a manager at the Landing that some players are still parking in the front parking lots.  You ABSOLUTELY must NOT park there.  We are in danger of their cancelling the Tuesday game entirely because of this.

If you have a handicap license plate or placard, do NOT come through the front entrance.  You will take your next left on Marclay Rd. (towards the airport).  You may take the BACK entrance towards the main building (this is before the gravel parking lot where the rest of you will park).  There is handicap parking behind the main building and plenty of parking spaces close to the building.  DO NOT DRIVE AROUND AND PARK IN THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING.  Those spaces are reserved for the residents and their personal guests ONLY.

If you do NOT have a handicap plate or placard, you must park in the gravel parking lot off Marclay Road.  It is a short walk to the main building, and the game is held in the auditorium close to that back entrance.
