4. March 3rd. The annual OBA competition at Roke, which again we hope to run as teaching in the morning followed by the EBED minibridge Sims/Bridge competition in the afternoon. In 2018, this doubled up as an Oxford Times Cup heat.
5. April 6th/7th The Wessex weekend at Cheltenham. The amazing cooperation from both Cheltenham BC and the Ladies College, enables us to offer this at very affordable rates, and is an amazing experience for the youngsters. £65 residential from 9.00.a.m. on Saturday, until 5.00.p.m. on Sunday. It is also a training weekend for the England U20 squad, so there are some very good and adventurous young players. The late night speedball is always fun.

Henry Rose of Oxfordshire, partnered by Oscar Selby of London, won the bronze medal for U16s(RHS). On the left is Tommy Brass formerly, like David Gold and Mike Bell, pupils of Reading School with his bronze medal at U26. Henry & Oscar also represented England in China this summer- and we must not forget the amazing girls contributions from Laura, Ewa and Siyu in the girls events.
The, now annual, Wessex Youth weekend, jointly organised by OBA and GCBA, is a fantastic event and was held in April 2018. Cheltenham Ladies College and Bridge Club provide wonderful facilities. On the Saturday night the club and the youngsters play in the same duplicate session- 24 boards of approximately 10 tables of U20s and 10 of over 70s, followed by speedball 18 boards at 7.5 minutes per round! That's youth bridge. This years' youth event on Sunday was won jointly by the Potter brothers and Aidan Saunders(partnered by Roland Bourne Sussex) from Oxfordshire whilst the Saturday night winners were members of the U20 squad, beating some august members of Cheltenham BC.
Several of the youngsters from OJBC are now training with Giorgio Provenza's U16 squad, and an article from Holly will follow. Numbers playing in schools are slightly down, but the quality of play is increasing, and therefore more children are starting to play in our clubs..
