About us
About us

The North Devon Bridge School, run by Carol Ritzen in Bishops Tawton just outside Barnstaple, welcomes anyone wishing to learn to play bridge.

Carol is an experienced teacher and bridge player who has been trained and accredited by the English Bridge Union.  She is committed to teaching bridge in a fun environment and to running the bridge classes in a friendly and relaxed way.

There are classes during term time for both complete beginners, those returning after a period away from the game and for those who have played for some time and want to improve their techniques. In addition there are regular supervised play sessions during the school holidays.

The school also provides a step for those who have played rubber bridge at home and now would like to try duplicate bridge in a club.

Why Learn Bridge
Why Learn Bridge

Bridge is great fun, an endlessly intriguing game, and a great way to meet new friends.  It is one of the most enduring and popular games in the world.  For over 100 years since it was invented, people of all types and from all walks of life have been gripped by the endless possibilities of fifty-two cards. Everyone who plays says  "I don't know what I did before I took up bridge!" Bridge is a game to be played and enjoyed, and not just something to learn. Perhaps most significantly it is a game at which players of very different experience and ability can play together and enjoy the game with the outcome on any hand uncertain.

Following the English Bridge Union's "Bridge for All" course we move forward in easy stages and ensure that students have plenty of opportunities to play in an enjoyable and supportive environment.
