Peer Group Competitions
Peer Group Competitions

To provide some competitions for pairs that run over the whole year we have set up separate competitions for each evening/afternoon of the week using the pairs data from every time that you play pairs on that day. The results are based on the best 8 scores over the whole season that you get with the same partner - with a requirement to play at least 8 times with the same partner. There are about 30 events a year that count so you could play with several partners and see who you get on with best!

On Mondays there are 2 competitions - one for those whose National Grading Scheme (NGS) ranking is 10 or above on the date of the event and one for those whose ranking is 7 to 9.  A similar arrangement applies on Tuesdays. [A separate competition has not been set up for pairs who are ranked 6 and below, as few presently play regularly on Mondays (or Tuesdays) - we would encourage them to try Mondays and Tuesdays and if sufficient pairs begin to play another competition will be set up] !

On Thursdays, when Associate Members are encouraged to play, there is a competition for those whose rankings are 7 to 9 and a separate one for those whose scores are 6 and below. Very few players with rankings of 10 or above play on Thursdays and but we would encourage them to try out Thursdays and assist Associate Members to develop their game.

On Wednesday afternoons there is a competition [Banks Cup] for individual Members or Associate Members whose NGS rankings are 6 and below plus Visitors .  Only results when you play with another eligible player will count!   The results are based on your best 8 scores over the whole season.

On Friday Afternoons there will be a competition for Improvers but all members are welcome and it is an opportunity for more experienced players to help improvers develop their skills - please come and help support new members!

These arrangements should provide competitions where members are being compared with their peer group.  As only the 8 best scores over the whole year will count it will be an encouragement to play regularly so that you can lose your worst scores!

The results are starting to be valid and will now shown in the Competitions Menu.  The Banks Cup on Wednesdays was very successful in 2013 and 2014.

If members play regularly in events with a member who has a lower NGS ranking adjustments will be made to enable them to compete in the Peer Group competition that the higher ranked player is eligible for. Adjustments will also be made to exclude members of the A Team from the lower Peer Group events.
