The late summer sectional in Moncton was held over the weekend (September 15-17). The weather was beautiful, the tournament was fun, and the winnings were incredible (maybe those last two are the same). Our club, and our sister clubs, got more than our fair share of masterpoints. And more than our fair share of wine (one of the prizes for first place in the events was a bottle of wine, not all of which managed to make the trip home). Here are the winnings for our regular club members:
Charlie Fortune and Ron O'Brien - 10.47 points. Included for them was a Friday night first in the pairs, a Saturday second in the pairs, and a Sunday first in the Swiss team game, all in the B section.
Doug Walters and Doug Roberts - 8.48 points. Included for them was a first place finish for the Saturday pairs, and a win with Charlie and Ron in the Swiss on Sunday, all in the B section.
Bill Knoll (who partnered with his brother Phil from Halifax) - 6.17 points (playing only Saturday and Sunday). They combined with our Herb Watters (and his partner Pat Scammell from our Truro sister club) for a win in the X section of the Swiss game on Sunday. Herb and Pat won a total of 5.00 points, having played on Saturday and Sunday.
Margaret Ann Dodson and "new to the tournament world" Susan Totten - 5.48 points. They won the C section on Friday afternoon and Saturday and did well in the Swiss on Sunday.
Ken and Betsy Eisner from our sister club in Truro and their partners won the A section of the Sunday Swiss game, netting 11.0 points each. Leslie Ruggles, from our Antigonish sister club, won 6.6 points over the event, while Marylyn Rudolph and Pam Dean from our Truro sister club took home 3.1 points over the three days.
Congratulations to all of those who played...
