Blue Point Events A Success
Blue Point Events A Success

Teams in play on Sunday during the recent New Chiswick BC "Blue Pointed" Bridge Weekend

New Chiswick Bridge Club's first venture into hosting higher level events was a great sucess.  We joined forces with one of London most promiment bridge clubs, the Young Chelsea BC - now located in Shepherds Bush, to stage a Pairs event on Saturday July 2nd and a Teams-of-4 event on Sunday July 3rd 2016.

Thirty pairs of all standards played in the pairs on the Saturday which was run on the Swiss principle - at each round you play against a pair with a similar score to your own.  This format sorts the players very effectively and the winners were the favourites on paper, Allison Green and Nicola Smith.  Earlier this month Nicola played on the winning English Ladies team at the European Championships held in Budapest and our event was honoured by her presence.

The following day nine teams played a complete round robin teams game.  The winning team included a quartet of prominent players -  Janet de Botton, Nick Sandqvist, Thor Erik Hoftaniska and Tom Townsend

Thanks to Nick Sandqvist of YCBC for co-hosting the event, and to Nicole Cook for directing both days' bridge.  Full results are in the Results Calendar - click link opposite.

World Wide Bridge Contest - April 26th 2016

Tonight we played a heat of the World Bridge Federation's "World Wide Bridge Contest". Oliver Buckley & Derek eked out a last board win over Martin & Cookie Hooffman but sadly not with a high enough percentage to win the offered expenses paid trip to China.  Next time maybe!!  Full international results at www.ecatsbridge.com/sims

The New Chiswick Bridge Club Ladder
The New Chiswick Bridge Club Ladder

Everyone who plays in the duplicates at New Chiswick Bridge Club participates in the Club Ladder.  Your Ladder score is the percentage by which you beat 50% in any week's duplicate.  Accumulate Ladder points by playing regularly.

At the end of each cycle the current Ladder leader receives a £40 prize. After receiving their prize, each winner will then be given a handicap sending them back down the field. All other players' scores carry forward, leaving the erstwhile winner to play catch up if they hope to repeat their feat.  You can win more than once but each time you win your handicap becomes greater.  In this way all those who play regularly will in their turn stand a chance of winning.

Winners so far:

  • December 2019 - Ian Whiteman
  • June 2019 - Adrian Haberberg

Barnes Café Bridge Oct 13th 2015

The recent Barnes Café Bridge, organised by Emma Forbes and Victor Lesk plus team, raised over £3000 for Hoopers Africa Trust, a charity that works for girls' education in East Africa.  Scoring was by Victor's "BriAn" system.  240 players took part, spread across 12 venues, and the results were available within 20 minutes of the end of play.  BriAn is ideally suited to the Café Bridge format and Victor maintains a webpage with details of past and future Café events. 8½ tables in play in our 2nd anniversary duplicate

We marked our second anniversary in style with a glass of prosecco each and a slice of celebration cake - home made by bridge director Ned Paul. There were 8½ tables in play and the winners were Maggie Christmas & Julian Hutson. By chance we also had 8½ tables on Opening Night two years ago and there were nine players who were in both games. The Club is healthy and we look forward to growing further in our third year.

In the Ladder Competition Chuck Campbell maintained the lead but Eugene Hertzmann had a good game to stay in contention for the end-August prize.

February 3rd 2015

Tonight we hosted a heat of the EBU National Pairs, so welcome to all the guest players who came in for their chance to qualify for the next stages of that competition.  But we were boosted also by local new players.  Thank you to all and it looks like the attendance is in good shape.   Father and son Patrick & Oliver Lawrence were our winning pair tonight by a head from Jane Williams & David Thompson.  In the Ladder competition Adrian Haberberg had a good session with Mike Landon and closes right in on the absent Sue McLaren for the lead.  All in all a good night.

Click results link above for detailed bridge results and the 'Competitions' link in the menu opposite for the full Ladder standings.
