Convention Cards

A reminder from the  directors: If you are playing anything but very basic ACOL you and your partner both require the same printed convention card available for perusal by your opponents. The easiest way to achieve this is to download a card from the EBU by clicking  HERE  You can then modify it to your own system. If you are unable to download one for any reason there are also now some blank convention cards in the cupboard in the playing room.

NEWBURY BRIDGE CLUB HOST BEIJING SILVER MEDALLISTS

Newbury Bridge Club hosted a last sixteen match of the Bridge Great Britain Gold Cup on Sunday 9th August.  The match was a repeat of last year’s quarter-final match between the Jordain team from Cardiff and the Townsend team from London. After a keenly fought match lasting nearly seven hours the 2008 result was repeated with the Townsend team again emerging victorious.

The cream of British Bridge were represented at the event. England’s leading pair, Tom Townsend and David Gold (originally from Wash Common) led from the front for the Townsend team. They won the silver medal in the Open Teams event at the World Mind Sports Games in Beijing 2008 which followed the Olympic Games.  They were supported by Internationals Espen Erichsen , Norman Selway and Nick Irens.

The Jordain team were also highly experienced internationals.  Mike Tedd, John Salisbury, Tony Ratcliff and Patrick Jourdain have represented Wales in the Camrose Home Internationals and the European Team Championships.

In fact the Jordain team can teach as well as play. Patrick Jourdain is the bridge correspondent of the Daily Telegraph, with Tony Forrester as the bridge columnist. His latest bridge book  "Patrick Jourdain's Problem Corner" was published last month by Master Point Press.
