Triple Crown
Triple Crown

Following on to their success in the  Chiltern League Teams of 4 (Michael, Madeline Lawson, Mahmood Nurmohamed, Eleanor Rice, Sula Turpin and Sue Oliver) and in the Spring Cup  Michael Beer's team achieved the "Triple Crown" on Wednesday night  (17th July 2014) when they won the Summer Teams beating 9 other teams. (The first success in this competition after many years of trying.) This made it a clean sweep for Michael's teams in the Chiltern League in 2014.
Michael brought his trophies to the Club on Thursday and Nicola Foster (Newbury Bridge Club's Secretary) gave a short  speech of congratulation.

Newbury Bridge Club Training Phase Two

Relaxed Hosted Duplicate

The Relaxed Hosted Duplicate gives more time than usual to play each hand than on an average Duplicate evening and is generally less strict.  It is run with the explicit intention of encouraging newer players to make that step up from Improvers, No Fear Bridge, Rubber etc. This year we have seen quite a few people take up that opportunity. We hope those who have played once or twice will continue to come and that others who have yet to try it out will give it a go.
The next Relaxed Hosted Duplicate is Tuesday 19th August. You can come with or without a partner.

Improver Bridge

Monday evenings  7:00 – 10:00 pm       (in the bar area)

These evenings will enable you to practise Duplicate Bridge in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere so you can become steadily more confident playing in any company. The format will be a playing session of about two hours followed by an open discussion of some of the hands in order to improve your understanding of both bidding and card play. Cost: £2 per session for members. £4 for visitors. No partner required

For further information click on title or contact John Hawkins  email:

Rubber Bridge

Monday evenings  7:00 – 10:00 pm   (main room)

Bridge doesn't have to be so serious! Come with a partner and play Rubber Bridge. It's fun and you can experiment without serious consequences. What's more there are prizes! If you've only played Duplicate it's easy to pick up.
Cost: £2 per session for members. £4 for visitors.

No Fear Duplicate Bridge

If you wish to play in the daytime don't forget No Fear bridge on Thursday afternoons. This is particularly suitable for beginners/improvers or if you haven't played for a while. You can turn up without a partner. £2 per session for members. £4 for visitors. 1.15 p.m. for a 1.30 p.m. start.  Finish 4.00 p.m. For further details see No Fear Bridge in the Information section
