If you're interested in what might be going on outside the club go to County Calendar / Events on the menu to find out what events are being run by Berks & Bucks, Hants/ IoW, and the Chiltern League. Also see Local Charity bridge Events.

Convention Cards

A reminder from the  directors: If you are playing anything but very basic ACOL you and your partner both require the same printed convention card available for perusal by your opponents. The easiest way to achieve this is to download a card from the EBU by clicking  HERE  You can then modify it to your own system. If you are unable to download one for any reason there are also now some blank convention cards in the cupboard in the playing room.

July Challenge Cup and July Tuesday Ladder table (revised twice!) now in Competition Tables 2018
NBC Charity Night
This year’s charity event in aid of Two Saints will take place at the Conservative Club on Friday 17th August starting at 6:15 for 6:30pm.
(Please note that members are asked not to arrive before 6:15pm to avoid problems with car parking).

The cost per person is £10 which includes a glass of wine on arrival and a ploughman’s supper, followed by an evening of Rubber Bridge.

The customary charity auction looks as though it will be the best yet and will include:
-  A morning at the Lambourn Gallops followed by a trip to the races with the trainer and his owners
-  A mini-break in South Wales in a holiday cottage for up to 6 people
-  Two tickets for a Manchester United match at Old Trafford including transport
-  A meal at the Fox and Hounds, Donnington
-  Flower arrangement
As previously, bids for any item can be made in advance and as usual, there will be a raffle on the night.

If you would like to come , please see Richard Bungey or any other committee member who will ensure you get your ticket. If you need a partner, please let us know and we will do our best to find one for you. If you can’t come, but would like to make a donation instead, please hand it to any committee member.

Finally, at the AGM in December, we will be selecting a charity for next year. If you have any suggestions, please let Nicola Foster know. To be suitable, the charity should be a local one which benefits local people. The committee will consider all suggestions and put forward a shortlist of two charities at the AGM.

Newbury Bridge Club SIMS 2018

Kidney Research Sim Pairs Thursday 12th July
EBED Autumn Sim Pairs Tuesday 4th September
Children in Need Sims Thursday 15th November

The Tommy Freeman Individual Championship Rose Bowl

This competition which takes place on the 4th Tuesday in the month is open to all pairs whether or not they are taking part in the Individual Championship. So if you wish you can play with the same partner(s)
( in the latter case all your results will count in the Master Points table but only the first result with the same partner will count in the Individual.)

Relaxed Hosted Duplicate

The Relaxed Hosted Duplicate gives more time than usual to play each hand than on an average Duplicate evening and is generally less strict. It is run with the explicit intention of encouraging newer players to make that step up from Improvers, No Fear Bridge, etc. Over the last year we have seen quite a few people take up that opportunity. We hope those who have played once or twice will continue to come and that others who have yet to try it out will give it a go.

The next Relaxed Hosted Duplicate is Thursday 19th July.  You can come with or without a partner.

ABC - Afternoon Bridge @ Chieveley - Chieveley Village Hall

If you'd like to play Bridge in the afternoon why not try Afternoon Bridge @ Chieveley. There will be duplimated boards, printouts, bridgemates and a director as per normal evening duplicate sessions.  Because we are now awarding Master Points for this event, there will be no "help" given during play. However if time allows there will be a short discussion at the end of one or two of the more interesting/more difficult hands. You can turn up without a partner. £2 members. £4 visitors.Thursdays 1.15 p.m. for 1.30 p.m. start.  Finish 4.30 p.m. There is unlimited car parking at the hall. Location: Chieveley village hall, High street, Chieveley RG20 8 TE (No subject)

Friday Night Improvers

Friday 7 p.m. This is ideal for those who have completed one year of Training or are of an equivalent standard. You can turn up without a partner. £2 members. £4 visitors.
This will usually be at the Conservative Club but there are a few dates when it will be at Chieveley. (see Calendar)

Rubber Bridge

Monday evenings  7:00 – 10:00 pm

Bridge doesn't have to be so serious! Come with a partner and play Rubber Bridge. It's fun and you can experiment without serious consequences. What's more there are prizes! If you've only played Duplicate it's easy to pick up.
Cost: £2 per session for members. £4 for visitors.

Reminder about the Conservative Club Car Park

Spaces numbered 1-16 + Flat should not be used as they are rented out 24/7. Visitors to the club hoping to use the carpark will need to contact either the Club Secretary, Nicola Foster or the Club Chairman Richard Bungey so that someone can operate the barrier for them. You must not use the car park if you are not playing bridge!
