Convention Cards

A reminder from Ann McMahon, the Chief Director: If you are playing anything but very basic ACOL you and your partner both require the same printed convention card available for perusal by your opponents. The easiest way to achieve this is to download a card from the EBU by clicking  HERE  You can then modify it to your own system. If you are unable to download one for any reason there are also now some blank convention cards in the cupboard in the playing room.

Beginners' Course September 2015
The Club will be running a comprehensive course for beginners from September onwards.  The course will consist of 3 terms of 11 or 12 weeks and will be held on Friday nights from 7.15pm to 9.45pm at the Bridge Club, which is in the Conservative Club on Cheap Street in Newbury.

As promised, this is to remind you that we will be holding the Open Night for the Beginners' Bridge Course on Friday 4th September from 7pm to 9pm. The course commences on Friday 25th September. At the Open Night there will be a presentation giving full details of what the course entails at 7.15pm and an opportunity to meet the teachers and helpers who will run the course.  There will also be a table where bridge will be played by experienced members and a chance for you to actually have a go at Mini Bridge. Other members of the club will be available to answer any questions you have.

Please do not hesitate to contact me, Martin Osgood m_j.osgood@talk21.com  if you need additional information.

Parking at the Conservative Club is free. The entrance is on Cheap Street round the corner on the right hand side just before you enter the station. The entrance is usually  by token only but  on the open night we will man the barrier from 6.50pm to 7.15pm to let people in.  If you come later than this you will need to park elsewhere and come into the Conservative Club by the front door. Please do not park in spaces 1 to 15 or those marked with an M or the Flat as these are private.

smileyWe look forward to seeing you at the open night.smiley

The lessons are all given by teachers who have taken an English Bridge Union course. We also have at least one and often two additional helpers at all  classes. The cost of the course is as in 2013 - £75 for the first term which includes a comprehensive EBU training book on which the course is based, and £60 for the second and third terms.

Relaxed Hosted Duplicate

The Relaxed Hosted Duplicate gives more time than usual to play each hand than on an average Duplicate evening and is generally less strict. It is run with the explicit intention of encouraging newer players to make that step up from Improvers, No Fear Bridge, etc. This year we have seen quite a few people take up that opportunity. We hope those who have played once or twice will continue to come and that others who have yet to try it out will give it a go.

The next Relaxed Hosted Duplicate is Tuesday 15th September. You can come with or without a partner.

No Fear Duplicate Bridge

If you wish to play in the daytime there's No Fear bridge on Thursday afternoons. This is particularly suitable for beginners/improvers or if you haven't played for a while. You can turn up without a partner. £2 members. £4 visitors. 1.15 p.m. for 1.30 p.m. start.  Finish 4.00 p.m. For further details see No Fear Bridge in the Information section.

Please note There will no longer be any daytime parking for the Bridge Club. Those taking part will need to find alternative parking

Rubber Bridge

Monday evenings  7:00 – 10:00 pm

Bridge doesn't have to be so serious! Come with a partner and play Rubber Bridge. It's fun and you can experiment without serious consequences. What's more there are prizes! If you've only played Duplicate it's easy to pick up.
Cost: £2 per session for members. £4 for visitors.
