ABOUT THE FRIENDLY LEAGUE

About the Friendly League

Following on from our bridge classes we thought it a good idea for students to have the chance of playing ‘teams bridge’.  Some would say it is the purest form of the game; it is certainly ideally suited to playing at home with friends, which is sociable and fun.  The first season was 2005 when we were surprised to find we had 12 teams interested bearing in mind that many players were new to the game.

Since then it continues to be very popular with 20 teams competing in this coming season,  2014/2015

How does it work?

  1. You get together a team of 4 or more players; it is a good idea to have at least one substitute.

  1. You return the application form and £10 entry fee per team to Aileen.

  1. The captain will then receive details of fixtures, rules/instructions , score cards, etc.

The season generally runs from October to June, depending upon the number of teams.   The maximum number of matches for each team is 7; some home and others away.

The captains contact each other to agree a suitable date and venue for their match.

At the end of the season trophies and prizes are awarded to the winning teams.
