Code of Conduct
Victoria Bridge Clubs' Code of Conduct
Code of Conduct March 21, 2023
PBC Code of Conduct August 24, 2022

The ultimate purpose of the code of conduct is to encourage a pleasant atmosphere in our club by attempting to eradicate unacceptable behaviour in order to make the game of bridge more enjoyable for all. Members and staff are expected to behave in a respectful manner to all others present. Everyone has the right and responsibility to ensure that the playing site is free from inappropriate behaviour.  The Victoria Bridge Clubs' Board of Directors are Bill W, Nicole D and Ernie T.

Below are some examples of commendable behaviour, which will significantly contribute to an enjoyable experience:

• Being a good “host” or “guest” at the table.

• Greeting others in a friendly manner.

• Praising the bidding and/or play of the opponents.

• Encouraging new and inexperienced players

Specific behaviours that will not be tolerated are:

• Badgering, rudeness, insinuations, intimidation, profanity, threats, sexual harassment or violence.

• Negative comments concerning opponents’ or partner’s play or bidding.

• Constant and gratuitous lessons and analyses at the table.

• Loud and disruptive arguing with a director’s ruling.

If a player at our club behaves in an unacceptable manner, the director should be called immediately.  Annoying behaviour, embarrassing remarks or any other conduct which might interfere with the enjoyment of the game are specifically prohibited by Law 74A. Law 91A gives the director the authority to assess disciplinary penalties.  Most cases will be handled by the director during the game.  The club supports ACBL Zero Tolerance for inappropriate behaviour and may impose further discipline.

Leaving the game in a huff anytime before the last round ends constitutes an automatic 30 day suspension.

The Concept of Progressive Discipline to be undertaken by the Board of Directors may include but not be limited to the following:

a) written reprimand and/or letter of concern to be followed by a discussion between the offender and the Board of Directors.  This may be in the form of a 6 month caution notice or warning where a repeat incidence will result in an immediate 30 day suspension.

b) club suspension (30 and 90 days) due to repeated inappropriate behaviour

c) expulsion from club and/or ACBL sanctioned events
