The Saccharum is an impressive new hotel (opened in April 2015) that is built along the cliff-side of the coastal town of Calheta. It has an indoor swimming pool and several outdoor pools and terraces with fantastic views of the Calheta coastline, marina and cliff-face.

The Saccharum has a spa with sauna, turkish bath and jacuzzi etc which costs an extra €20 per person per day, though we have negotiated one free day pass per person for our group.

Although currently a four-star hotel, the Saccharum will be reclassified as five stars in 2016.

Accessibility

All rooms have good accessibility for people with limited mobility, with all bathrooms having walk-in showers. There is one suite available designed for wheelchair-bound guests. Only the top floor terrace and swimming pool are not accessible to wheelchairs.
