Competition Rules
Rules:

General Rules For All Competitions

Participants must be MK Bridge Club Members to play “with standing” in any of the club competitions.

With effect from 1 January 2022, until further notice' "with standing" aplies to to the club's extende player base who are registered with Bridge Online Alliance

Non-members will be allowed to participate “without-standing” at the discretion of the committee in all events hosted at the club upon payment of the appropriate visitors fees. Persons playing “without standing” will not be eligible for their results to count towards any of the club competitions. A pair with one non-member shall be “without standing”, although the results of the member shall count towards individual competitions.

In the event of a player no longer being a member at the time when the winners are announced, the committee shall have absolute discretion to decide whether to award the trophy to that player or to someone else.

 

Rules for Wednesday Competitions

First Wednesday Pairs

       The average of the best 7 percentages.  Trophy awarded to a pair.

Stantonbury Plate

Total local points awarded throughout the year that are won on a Wednesday, excluding the first Wednesday competition. “National” local points awarded in simultaneous events are not counted. Enhanced scale local points awarded for special events are included. Trophy awarded to a pair.

Veterans Trophy

This will be won by the highest placed pair of veterans in the Stantonbury Plate. Veterans must have a combined age of 130 at the end of the competition year. Where a veteran pair emerges as the winner of the Stantonbury Plate, then the Veterans Trophy will be awarded to the next highest veteran pair.

Individual

Awarded to the Club member who has the highest average local point total per attendance, excluding first Wednesdays. A minimum of 17 attendances are required. “National” local points awarded in simultaneous events are not counted. Enhanced scale local points awarded for special events are included. Local points won in this event will count towards the Stantonbury Plate    

Club Championship Pairs

This will be held over 4 sessions spaced approximately quarterly throughout the year. A one winner movement will be played in all sessions.

The winners will be decided on the basis of the highest average of the best 3 scores over the 4 events. Players may play "without status" with up to 4 different partners.

Swiss Pairs

This will be held on one evening. Ideally 5x5 board matches will be held to determine the victors, played on a Swiss basis. Local points won in this event will count towards the Stantonbury Plate.

Citizen Cup

This will be played as a one-winner match-pointed pairs movement on a Wednesday and shall be open to all comers. Table money proceeds will be donated to a local charity of the Club’s choosing.  Percentage scores count towards the appropriate Wednesday competition(s).

 

Rules For Friday Competitions

·       Third Friday Pairs  (Davis Cup)

The average of the best 7 percentages.  Trophy awarded to a pair.

From 2015 players at or above the rank of regional master. or exceptionally as deemed by the committee  to be playing at that skill level at the end of the competition year shall be ineligible for the winning of this competition.

·       Handicap trophy

Awarded to the player achieving the highest average percentage over the year when weighted by their rolling handicap. At least 20 appearances are needed to be "with status". Third Friday results are excluded.

·       Friday Pairs Competition

Awarded to the pair with the highest average local point total per attendance, excluding third Friday competition. 12 attendances per year are required.

 

Rules For Other Competitions

 

·       All Duplicate Pairs Competition (Gilling Trophy)

Awarded to the player who has the highest number of local points in all events on Wednesdays and Fridays.

 From 2015 players at or above the rank of regional master. or exceptionally as deemed by the committee to be playing at that skill level at the end of the competition year shall be ineligible for the winning of this competition.
