Lessons and practice will concentrate on card play, both by declarer and defenders. Members of the class should not be beginners, as some knowledge of the game of bridge plus elementary bidding will be assumed. Though suitable for social players, the course will be focused mainly on those players who wish to play duplicate pairs at club level.
Topics will include:
Planning the play in both trump and no-trump contracts. How to play particular card combinations. Planning the defence. Leads, Signals and Discards. Counting (Points, Distribution, Tricks). Inferences (from the bidding, leads, play, defence).
Declarer play at duplicate pairs compared with teams and rubber bridge. Defence play at duplicate pairs compared with teams and rubber bridge.Additional appropriate related topics may be included at the request of students.
Each session will consist of:
Lesson/discussion on the topic in question. Exercises to carry out during the sessions. Prepared practice hands illustrating the current topic (and previous topics). Written notes will be available covering each session. “Homework” questionnaires/exercises may be used to reinforce the topic subject. Follow up of points arising from previous topics/sessions
The cost will be £4.00 per improver per session
