| Evening Echo Tribute to Con O'Donovan |
CON ODONOVAN R.I.P.
South Munster has lost another formidable personage in that of Con O Donovan. The region extends its sincere sympathy to his Son David, Daughter Jennifer (Buttimer), his partner Sheila, brothers, sisters and extended family.
Con was a man of foresight. He loved the game of bridge and wanted everyone to have the opportunity to learn how to play it.
25 years ago, he commenced a series of bridge lessons in Castle Ahan in Enniskeane, numbers grew steadily and it was then that Con had a vision of a Bridge Centre where players could relax in comfort and play the game. The old School House in Ballineen was the target, and in no time the purchase of the Old National School was finalised and a complete make-over took place, resulting in a magnificent Bridge Centre in the little town of Ballineen, the first of its kind in West Cork and it is still going strong.
His sights went further afield to Cork City. He started the Mill Bridge Centre in Douglas and due to the insight of this man; this too has been a huge success.
His son David is now at the helm in Douglas and we wish him every success
Con has done so much for Bridge in South Munster Region and he will be remembered by so many with grateful thanks for introducing them to the game... Let us all hope that Con when he reaches his final resting place will get to play that ‘Grand Slam’ doubled and making! (No half measures for Con) in the Heavenly Bridge Arena.
May he rest in Peace
