Learn to play bridge!

Many of the clubs in Merseyside offer beginners' and/or improvers' lessons. There are also easy duplicate sessions for improvers. As these change in availability it is not possible to keep a definitive list on this site. You can access the clubs' websites through the link top left on this site. Depending on where you live, possible clubs to try include Blundellsands BC, Deva, Liverpool BC, and Merseyside Bridge Centre.

For other suggestions, please click here to go to the EBU (English Bridge Union) education charity's website.

  Lady Connell

The Lady Connell Cup and its consolation event the Cheshire Salver are knockout events for teams of four, held in informal venues. The winning Lady Connell team is invited to represent the county in the Pachabo Cup, an inter-counties event.

The cost to enter a team in the Lady Connell is only £24 per team, for which you are guaranteed at least two matches. Teams losing in the first round of the Lady Connell are automatically entered in the Cheshire Salver.

It really is a most enjoyable contest, playing bridge of a high standard. But please don't be put off entering a team because you don't think you'll win. The experience is worth more than a whole year of bridge lessons! (No offence to our wonderful bridge teachers in the county!)

Entries should be emailed to Julian Merrill (julian.merrill@ntlworld.com) giving the names of the team members, their EBU numbers, and the captain's contact details. You can have up to 6 players in your squad although only four can play in each match.

If you've never considered a competition of this calibre before but would like to give it a try, you could consider entering the Cheshire Salver direct (details on this will follow later in the year).  You can express your interest to Julian in advance.

The deadline for entries to the Lady Connell is Monday 25 September 2017.

  Jean Keen Trophy, organiser required

Jean Keen Trophy, organiser required

After around 20 years of organising the event she founded, Jean Keen has decided that it is time to hand over the rôle to someone else.

The Jean Keen Trophy is an open ladies' teams of four event, traditionally held every year in late February at Merseyside Bridge Centre (although a new organiser might want to change this).

It is a friendly, enjoyable occasion, with good bridge in convivial company.

If you are interested, further information about the role can be obtained by clicking here.
