Bowling Competition 2016
We flirted with the weather but just about got away with it. The rain cleared a few minutes before we were due to start and when a shower passed over later it coincided with our break for the usual delicious sandwiches, tea, scones and cakes.
So, pleasantly warm and mostly dry, it was another good afternoon’s bowling.
The winners were Mo Kellett and Mike Greatbatch, pictured here being presented with their prizes by Jilly Hopewell-Taylor. Runners up were Luke Atherton and Mike Griffin, with the bowl-of-the-day being made by Tony Gray.
Another excellent afternoon, with many thanks to Jilly and friends for all their efforts in organising the event.

Bowling Competition 2015
It was a bright and breezy day for this year’s fun at Oxton Cricket, Tennis and Bowling Club. Very pleasant in the sunshine, but the brisk wind was felt when the sun went behind the clouds.
Not that there was much chance for sitting in the sun, it was a very busy afternoon with all the pairs playing at least four matches, challenging the stamina of some. The half time break was certainly appreciated, with everyone tucking into the excellent selection of sandwiches, tea and cream scones.
Suitably fortified the bowling continued to find the best two pairs for the final.
Congratulations to this year's winners, Bernard Moore and Mo Kellett, pictured here with event organiser Jilly Hopewell-Taylor. In a very close final they just pipped Jean Gregory and stand-in Kevin Owens, with an extra end being required to split the pairs.
It was another perfect social afternoon. Many thanks to Jilly and all the helpers.
You really should come along next year.

Bowling Competition 2014
For the second year running it was a gloriously hot summer's day at Oxton Cricket, Tennis and Bowling club for the annual bowling competition.
Some basked in the sun while others thought it all too hot, but everyone was kept well supplied with iced drinks to keep up the hydration levels.
Together with the tea, sandwiches, scones and cakes no one could complain about being fed and watered – far from it!
It was another perfect social afternoon that you really should come along to next year.
Many thanks to Jilly and all the helpers who make this event what it is.
There was even time for some bowling, so congratulations to this year’s well deserved winners, Michael Ellis and Jean Gregory – pictured here with Chairperson Jill Oddie, who presented the prizes, and Jill Hopewell-Taylor.

Bowling Competition 2013
It was a gloriously hot summer's day at Oxton Cricket, Tennis and Bowling club that awaited the entrants, and spectators, for this year's competition.
All the teams played two matches of fifteen ends with the two highest scoring teams meeting in the final. In the heat that was quite enough for everyone!
The final couldn't have been closer with Mo Kellett and Colin Nugent losing on an extra end to winners Jilly Hopewell-Taylor and John Griffith – pictured here with Chairperson Jill Oddie who presented the prizes (and also took part).
Many congratulations to Jilly and John.
Oh, and the sandwiches, scones and cakes were as delicious as ever.
It all makes for the perfect afternoon, put it in your diary for next year.

Bowling Competition 2012
After the disappointment of last week’s rain postponement it was a relief when the event finally took place in very pleasant summer sunshine.
The initial games were followed by a break for afternoon tea which was much enjoyed by all - the delicious scones being as popular as ever.
On resuming, the top pairs continued, resulting in a closely fought final with Chris Wentworth and Pat Arthur narrowly losing to the winners Chris Griffin and Mo Kellett – pictured here with the event organiser Jilly Hopewell-Taylor.
Many congratulations to Chris and Mo.
A very enjoyable afternoon for all - roll on next year!
