Minutes of a Committee Meeting of Melton Bridge Club
On Wednesday, 10th February, 2016 at 7p.m.
At The Conservative Rooms, Melton
Present: Frank Williams (chairman), Geoff Foldys, Ben Gibson (secretary), David Mell
Apologies: Gerry Loxley, Michael Osborne, Sue Osborne
Frank welcomed everyone to the meeting and accepted apologies from Gerry, Mike and Sue.
Lighting – a discussion was held about the level of lighting in the playing area. Conservative club to be approached to consider fitting brighter light bulbs (purchased by the bridge club approx. £7@ bulb). Tables to be positioned with lighting in mind.
Better behaviour at Bridge – a reminder to all to ensure a friendly character to the club whilst acknowledging the competitive nature of the game. Members are all urged to encourage new members whenever the opportunity arises.
Teams of Four – this format has not been played recently and members of the committee feel that it may not be popular amongst the current Monday players. There is the Anne of Cleves Trophy available if an even number of tables allows a teams of four competition to be held in November. Pairs to be drawn at random.
Simultaneous Pairs – The Children in Need Sim. Pairs will be made a priority. To add interest, The Melton Trophy will be presented to the club heat winners, as scored nationally. A further Sim. pairs will be considered in the Spring.
Individual Competition – this will be played on Monday, 6th June 2016. The committee will encourage all members to join in.
Website – the committee think that it is generally running well. Frank and Ben will endeavor to add a few personal congratulations to the front page. Ben will try to post results as soon as possible or ask Larry to help if a delay looks likely.
Timing – Monday evenings finish between 10p.m. and 10.20p.m. so there is no pressure to hurry people along by using a timer. Players will be reminded to try to keep up with the pace of the room so that everyone can enjoy the movement. Discussions about the hands should be kept to a minimum as the room is small and discussions slow the rounds down. An early finish allows pairs to stay and chat about the evening’s challenges before they go home!
Match fees – as club balances are healthy, it was decided that the £1 away match fee be waived. At home matches, pairs are all responsible for buying the opponents drinks at half time.
The meeting closed at 8.05p.m
