Club History & Milestones

16th October 2012

A small group of like-minded Bridge players & friends held an inaugural Tuesday Morning ´Bridge in the Port´ session at the ´Los Galayos´ Restaurant along the Paseo in Puerto de Mazarron. Playing with home-made Boards & borrowed bidding boxes, the ´Founding Fathers´ were (in alphabetical order):  Anne & Chris Rayner, Eddie & Evelyn Bleasdale, Ian Christie, Jean Boone, Joe Hayes, Lawrie Hunt & Phil Carter.

Jean Boone (pictured on the left, above) has the priviledge of winning that first ever session!

Unfortunately Tuesday mornings proved a difficult ´slot´ for attracting more players, so sessions were soon moved to a Monday.  As ´Los Galayos´ closes Mondays, the group moved to ´Hotel La Cumbre´, where membership & attendance grew steadily & proper equipment was purchased as funds grew.

20 May 2013

With a membership of 40, it was decided to put the ´club´ on a more formal & democratic footing.  An AGM was held, a President & Steering Committee elected, & the new club name of ´Mazarron Bay Bridge Club´ (MBBC) was adopted - ´Club de Bridge Bahia de Mazarrón´.

A club website was piloted (´Peters Club´) & once proven everything was migrated to the current MBBC Website.  The Club continued to prosper at La Cumbre, but unfortunately in September the hotel decided to convert the room we played in to an Italian-themed restaurant, & the alternative they provided proved unsuitable for Bridge.

14 October 2013

On its first anniversary, the Club moved to its 3rd venue, ´The Atrium´ Hotel in Bolnuevo, & held a follow-up AGM after the first morning´s session.  As well as approving the Club Accounts, adopting a Club Constitution, re-electing Committee Members & President, Members discussed the most effective ways of increasing player membership.  It was decided to initiate Bridge Teaching sessions, with the hope that most of those new to Bridge will become regular players once the basics of have been learnt.

14 November 2013

´Play & Learn´ Thursday sessions initiated, with upto 20 newcomers attending differing sessions.

13 January 2014

Club moved to its 4th (& hopefully last!) venue at Hotel Playa Grande.
