The EBU Spring Pairs will be held at the club on Wednesday 8th May, Thursday 9th May and Monday 13th May.

RUIA CUP

This popular SWISS TEAMS held over three sessions in May, June and July will start on Thursday 16th May 2013 so start organising your teams as soon as possible! Please let Jeff know if you are playing or if you are short of teammates.

Michelle Brunner Memorial Event

WELL DONE at the Northern Easter tournament in York

THURSDAY NIGHT SWISS PAIRS

It is our intention to run this popular event every available Thursday. When the Ruia Cup Swiss Teams is held on the 16th May it is hoped that regular Swiss Pairs players will play and make up teams. Swiss Pairs are scheduled for 18th April, 25th April, 2nd May but not the 9th May as it is the EBU Spring Pairs Simultaneous and Bridget will be preparing something special to eat on that night

BEN BEEVER SUNDAY INTERMEDIATE SEMINARS

Ben Beever is holding 5 more seminars in May and June. All the seminars will take place on Sunday afternoons starting at 3.15pm. There will be a lesson on the subject followed by prepared hands demonstrating the topic. There will also be a short break for refreshments (tea, coffee and biscuits provided by the Club).

The first seminar is on Sunday 5th May and looks at Five Card Majors (Learn how to improve your bidding system and find your 5-3 fits immediately by showing 5 card majors with your opening bid).

The second seminar is on Sunday 19th May and covers Slam Practice (Following a very brief refresher seminar, this session will consist of 12 to 14  practice hands).

On Sunday 26th May, Ben will be examining Danger Hands. This session will explain how to prevent a particular opponent from gaining the lead, and when to duck if you cannot stop them doing so.).

On Sunday 2nd June Ben looks at Conventional Overcalls (Some overcalls, such as of the opponent’s suit, are pointless in a natural sense, so may be recruited for much more useful purposes.  This session shows how experts use them, including a look at more recent developments).

The fifth seminar is on Sunday 9th June and is titled Introduction to Endplays (Ever been given a ruff and discard as declarer?  This session shows how to force or persuade the defenders to allow you one, or make them take the risk out of a finesse.)

The cost for these seminars is £8 for members and £10 for non-members.
