Well done to John Holland on winning the Sunday Telegraph Salver for the most master points accumulated during 2012. John is also currently 2nd in the Gold Point list. Well done to Michael Byrne on being part of the team that won the National Swiss Teams and to Sarah O Connor on being part of the winning Junior Camrose team.
Best of luck to two Manchester Bridge Club based teams in the semi-finals of National Events- Catherine Drapers team (Hassett, Debbage, Woodcock and Draper) in the Hubert Phillips and Clive Owen (John Holland, John Hassett, Jeff Morris) in the Seniors Knockout The Gerard Faulkner Salver.
NEW MONDAY AFTERNOON DUPLICATE FORMAT
From Monday 4th March Monday afternoon duplicates will be supervised by Dave Debbage. Start time will be 1.15pm with play commencing before 1.30pm. Table money will be £6.00 and Bridget will be in to serve teas, coffees and homemade refreshments.
BEN BEEVER SUNDAY INTERMEDIATE SEMINARS
Ben Beever is holding 5 more seminars in March. All the seminars will take place on Sunday afternoons starting at 3.15pm. There will be a lesson on the subject followed by prepared hands demonstrating the topic. There will also be a short break for refreshments (tea, coffee and biscuits provided by the Club).
The first seminar is on Sunday 3rd March and looks at Slam Bidding (Learn about splinters, mini-splinters, control bids and other tools that make bidding slams much easier). The second seminar is on Sunday 10th March and covers Roman Key Card Blackwood (RKCB) (a significant improvement on Blackwood, this convention allows you to locate the King and Queen of Trumps and even other controls). On Sunday 17th March, Ben will be examining The Art of Good Defence (Stop declarer making contracts that should fail, by making the best leads, placing crucial cards with partner, and defending accordingly). On Sunday 24th March Ben looks at Entries & Danger Hands (How to avoid being blocked in the wrong hand and how to protect your honours from attack). The fifth seminar is on Sunday 31st March and is titled Winning at Duplicate Bridge (understand how Duplicate Bridge is scored and what strategies flow from this).
The cost for these seminars is £8 for members and £10 for non-members.
TOM MIDDLETON MEMORIAL EVENT
This is a Swiss Rubber Bridge event with an extensive Middle Eastern buffet being provided during the half time break. The entry fee is £10 with most of the fee being donated to the Parkinson's Society. Start time is 7.00pm. Please pre-enter so we have the correct numbers for catering purposes.
