CELTIC SIMULTANEOUS PAIRS-THURSDAY 6th DECEMBER 2012
Celtic Simultaneous Pairs with home made soup and crusty bread refreshments. Green point event - table money £10.00. Pit your wits against our Celtic neighbours next Thursday evening, 6th December at 7.30.p.m. and sample Bridget's delicious chicken soup with crusty bread (vegetarian option)- ideal for a winter's night! NOTE THIS IS A GREEN POINTED EVENT RUN BY ECATS. Partners always found.
BEN BEEVER SUNDAY INTERMEDIATE SEMINARS
Ben Beever's final seminar this year is on 9th December on Recommended Conventions including Transfers (we tell you about the most useful gadgets to polish up your bidding). The cost of this seminar is £8 for Members and £10 for non-members. The price includes tea, coffee and biscuits during a brief break. Start time is 3.15. There will be a short talk followed by a series of hands which will help you to learn the useful conventions covered.
CRAZY PAIRS
The University of Manchester Bridge Club are hosting another event at Manchester Bridge Club and they would like to welcome any bridge players who would like to support their University Bridge Club to come along and play at these events.
This event, on Thursday 13th December (a 7.30 pm start), is Crazy Pairs. This is a casual event where the rules of bridge are mixed up while playing. Sounds simple? Try : bidding a contract without being able to bid black suits, bidding a contract only to be told you're in a higher or lower contract or even in a different suit, playing a contract out but anti-clockwise. Sounds interesting? Give it a go! All abilities welcome.
SANTA CLAUS PAIRS
Get your entry in for the Santa Claus Pairs which is being held on Sunday 16th December. This is a two session event starting with Welcome Drinks at 1.30pm. The first session starts at 2 pm with our sumptuous Christmas Buffet being served between sessions. Entries are limited so book early to avoid disappointment. The entry fee is £27.50 per player. The 1st prize is £150 and 2nd prize is £80. There will be a small gift for every-one attending. Coffee and mince pies will be served at the end of the competition.
CHRISTMAS PARTY
Christmas Party and Duplicate Monday 17th December 2012 7.30pm for Monday Evening players. Also this is the last session of the Cheadle Royal Cup.
MANCHESTER BRIDGE CLUB AGM – SUNDAY 30TH DECEMBER 2012
This year's AGM will take place on Sunday 30th December at 6.30 pm. The meeting will be followed by a buffet at 7.00 pm and a Duplicate session at 7.30 pm. Jeff and David, with the help of the Committee, have put in place many new suggestions and requests made by Members in response to our questionnaire. We hope as many Members as possible will attend this year's AGM so we can continue to get Members' views on the changes we have put in place, along with new ideas for 2013. Any nominations for Committee should be made to Jeff before 6.00pm on the 29th December 2012.
CLUB OPENING HOURS OVER FESTIVE SEASON
The club will close Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. We will, however, be open for rubber bridge every afternoon after Boxing Day(including New Years Eve and New Years Day) and for duplicate in the evenings on Thursday 27th December 2012 , Wednesday 2nd January 2013 and Thursday 3rd January 2013.
MANCHESTER CONGRESS
Manchester’s much loved congress will this year be held at a new venue over the weekend of 5th and 6th January 2013.The venue will be the Victoria and Albert Hotel, Water Street. There will be two great one session events for players new to tournament bridge –on the Saturday starting at 1.00pm the Players Progress Cup and on the Sunday the Kevin Comrie Cup starting at 11.00pm. CHANNEL TROPHY
Five players from the club will be representing England in the Under 25 International match against Holland, France and Belgium on the 22nd and 23rd December. Sarah O’Connor, Sinead Bird, Kirstyn Fuller and Laura Bonney will be playing in the Under 25 Girls Team and Rob Myers will be playing in the Under 25 Open Team.
