In Search Of A Queen

When the Queen is missing and a finesse is indicated (you have eight cards or fewer) the basic approach is to finesse on the 2nd round (if possible).

You (AKJ6), dummy (7542).  Cash the Ace then cross to dummy and finesse the Jack if RHO follows low.

You (AJ64), dummy (K752).  Cross to the King then finesse the Jack if RHO follows low.

You (K76432), dummy(AJ).  Lead low to the Jack for a first round finesse.

Finessing the Queen requires a tenace or J10 opposite the AK.  Without this a finesse of the Queen is not possible.

You (AK106), dummy (J542).  K-10 tenace.  Cash the Ace then cross to dummy and finesse the 10 if RHO plays low.

You (AK64), dummy (J1052).  No tenace, but J10 opposite the AK.  Cash the Ace then cross to dummy and lead the Jack playing low if RHO plays low.

You (AK73), dummy (J542).  No tenace and no J10 opposite - therefore no finesse is possible.  Cash the AK and hope for the Queen to drop for 4-tricks.
