There was a lot of kissing (doubling "X") going on today but most of it was unfriendly and not in the Christmas Spirit.
I don't know the bidding as I wasn't at the table but why was this double of 4♠ very friendly indeed?

East has very good Spades but no defensive tricks of their own.
New Years Resolution: Don't double on a strong Trump suit in your own hand alone unless you are 100% certain they are going down. It gives the declarer a vital clue as to how the trumps split and this might just be enough to allow them to make a difficult contract. Leave them to discover the unpleasant trump bream for themselves. |
