Board 10 - Making 6NT |
Show Detail |
A simple auction where West knows E-W have the combined 33 count usually good enough for 6NT.
If you play Gerber then 2NT - 4♣ - 4NT - 6NT is slightly safer as it reassures West that they aren't missing Ace-King in teh same suit.
6NT should always make and the key is in Counting before beginning to play the hand.
East can count 10 Top Tricks (immediate winners) so needs two more.
They must take the Diamond finesse immediately, playing ♦ 10 to the first round so they can repeat it if South ducks. If South goes up with the ♦ Q then Declarer continues Diamonds, surrendering the fourth round to gain the fifth Diamond as their twelfth trick.
If South leads a Club then Declarer must play low from dummy otherwise they cannot afford to lose a Diamond, but most Souths will lead a Diamond from four to the Queen.
