| Liskeard Bridge Club Constitution & Rules |
1. Name
The Club shall be called the "Liskeard Contract Bridge Club".
2. Objects
To promote and further the interest of Contract Bridge in the locality. To be affiliated to the English Bridge Union.
3. Management
The management of the Club shall be vested in the Committee, which shall consist of the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer and two other members of the Club, all of whom shall be elected annually by the registered members of the Club at an Annual General Meeting held on a Tuesday or Friday in the 2nd week of October, or as close to that week as possible, as decided by the Committee and of which at least fourteen days notice shall be given to all registered members. Any four members of the Committee shall form a quorum. The Committee shall have power to co-opt additional members. In the case of an equality of votes the Chairman shall have a second or casting vote. Proxy votes shall not be permitted.
4. Extraordinary General Meeting
A special General Meeting may be called at any time at the request of the Committee, or at least one third of the registered members of the Club, subject to a minimum of fourteen days' notice to all registered members.
5. Membership
Membership shall be open to persons who have been duly proposed and seconded by existing members of the Club and who have demonstrated to the Committee a satisfactory standard of play during three afternoon/evening Club competitions. The Committee may, at its absolute discretion: (i) Refuse to accept or renew the membership of any person; and (ii) Suspend the membership of any member for such period as it may think fit; and (iii) Cadet Membership: Students who have attained a satisfactory playing standard may be admitted to membership of the Club at a reduced subscription; the amount of such reduced subscription to be determined at the AGM or EGM.
6. English Bridge Union
All members of the Club shall observe the rules, regulations and byelaws of the English Bridge Union.
7. Register
A register of members shall be maintained and at any election only those fully subscribed members whose names have been duly registered for a period of at least twenty eight days shall be entitled to vote.
8. Subscription
The annual subscription shall fall due on 1st October each year and must be paid within twenty eight days to preserve voting eligibility. If a subscription remains unpaid for three months then membership shall lapse.
The amount of the subscription and session table money for both members and guests shall be determined by the Club members at the AGM or, in special circumstances, at an EGM.
9. Accounts
Accounts shall be made up to 31st July each year, including an inventory of trophies and equipment, for submission to members at the AGM and shall be duly certified by an Auditor appointed or approved at the previous AGM. If the position of Auditor should become vacant other than at the AGM, the Committee shall appoint a replacement.
10. Conditions of Play
The Committee shall determine the conditions and arrangements under which Contract Bridge shall be played at the Club. It is expected that a reasonable standard of Dress shall be maintained. Smoking is not pennitted in the room in which bridge is played and only elsewhere with regard to the rules of the premises.
The selection and entry of teams for outside competitions shall require the approval of the Committee.
Subject to any restrictions which the Committee may think necessary, members may introduce guests to the Club.
11. Trophies and Prize Money
The conditions regarding the award of trophies and the amount of prize money to be awarded shall be agreed at the AGM/EGM except that the Committee shall have the discretion to vary such awards if circumstances so warrant.
12. Constitution
This Constitution may be added to, repealed or amended at any Annual or Special General Meeting by valid decision of an affirmative vote by a simple majority of those duly registered members present. The full text of any such resolution nrust have been furnished to all members prior to the Meeting.
