| Please shuffle and deal the boards correctly! |
A table of hand pattern probabilites is shown here.
- The odds of a 6-6-1-0 hand are 1338/1
- The odds of a 7-6-0-0 hand are 17857/1
- The odds of a 8-5-0-0 hand are 32258/1
To put this in perspective, if one were to play 27 boards every day, then (with average luck) one of the four players at your table will see a 6610 hand every 13 days, a 7600 hand every 171 days, and an 8500 hand every 310 days.
Hence it was somewhat improbable that all three distributions should have been seen on Thursday 7th Feb 2008. Players are reminded that hands should be shuffled and not goulashed.
A useful anti-goulash measure is to shuffle your 13 cards before you place your cards back into the board.
Players are reminded of Law 6 from the 1997 Laws of Duplicate Contract Bridge:
LAW 6 - THE SHUFFLE AND DEAL
A. The Shuffle
Before play starts, each pack is thoroughly shuffled. There is a cut if either opponent so requests.
B. The Deal
The cards must be dealt face down, one card at time, into four hands of thirteen cards each; each hand is then placed face down in one of the four pockets of the board. |
