The Lincs Gold has attracted six entries for the 2016-2017 season. This means that we have two preliminary matches to play to reduce the field to four teams and, hence, the semi-finals. At the latest County committee Meeting the Chairman made the draw for the preliminary matches and, also, the semi-finals.

The two preliminary matches are:

Parsons vs Elwick

Wardell vs Millington

Please would Captains try to arrange these matches before Christmas. It is very easy to let these things slide and then delays build up and cause frustration for the other teams in the competition. It is best if, initially, the away Captain (the second named Captain in each match) gets in contact with the home Captain to discuss possible dates.

The draw for the semi-final is:

Wokes vs Wardell or Millington

Smith vs Parsons or Elwick

The first named team is the home team. Arrange matches as usual. It is hoped to finish the competition by about Easter because we may be able to organise a team for the Pachabo from the finalists, depending on which teams get through. Good luck to all the entrants.

Winning Captains please send results, and the names of all the players in the match, to me. Glynn.

Rules of the Competition

For quarter-final matches:

Option 1. Match of 24 boards played in two 12 board stanzas against the two other pairs. If match is tied then play an extra 4 boards to find a winner.

Option 2. By agreement between Captains, match of 32 boards. Played in stanzas of eight boards. Toss a coin for seating rights for even and odd stanzas. If match is tied then play an extra 4 boards to find a winner.

For semi-final matches:

Option 1. Match of 32 boards. Toss a coin for seating rights in odd or even stanzas. Play match over four 8 board stanzas. If match is tied then play an extra 4 boards.

Option 2. Play match over 40 boards, by agreement between Captains. Toss a coin for seating rights. If match is tied play an extra 4 boards.

For the final:

Option 1. Play match over 40 boards. Toss a coin for seating rights. If match is tied then play an extra 4 boards.

Option 2. By agreement between Captains, play match over 48 boards. Toss a coin for seating rights. If match is tied then play an extra 4 boards.

These rules are such that quarter-final matches are short enough to be played on a week day. Other matches are more suitable for playing at a weekend. I would suggest that a reasonably early start is made for these matches.

Winners of the competition are eligible to go forward and represent the County in the Pachabo competition next June. If required, a team can be selected from the winners and the runners-up. Any problems, contact the Competition Secretary.
