County Competitions - Ghost Pairs 22nd October

The County Competitions season continues with the Annual Ghost Pairs on Sunday, 22nd October and starts at 12pm at Dunholme Village Hall.

The first event of the season, the All-Comers Pairs was successful and the Ghost Pairs offers a similarly relaxed and friendly format of bridge, members are encouraged to give it a try.

If you visit the Lincs Bridge county website you will see all the County competitions for the forthcoming season are posted.

As early notification, the County Garden Cities trophy heat is being held on Sunday 5th November. A number of clubs are threatening to take Lincoln's 'crown' this year, so expect some fireworks. Captain Nick Hunter is developing the team, please contact him if you wish to be considered.

Thursday Handicap Teams - Result

On Thursday, 21st September we held the Handicap Teams trophy for Teams of 4. In the club results you can see the standings before handicaps, by clicking this news item you can find the standings after handicap.

After what was a pleasant and keenly contested 7 team event, congratulations to Patrick Rimmer, George Ford, Mike Stafford and Cos Corry who prevailed by 1 imp.

We also owed a big thank you to Maurice Lynn who helped organised the movement and also generated the handicaps. Given such close scores the handicaps were well-judged.

Bainton Trophy

Members will be aware this competition is one of the county's most popular and prestigious events. Clubs hold a qualifier and any pair with more than 50% (50.01%+!) can progress to a semi-final and, potentially, final to be held early in 2018.

Previously clubs were only allowed to hold one qualifying event, in Lincoln this was historically on a Thursday, which disadvantaged those who play on Mondays or Wednesdays. This year the rules have been relaxed a little to allow more players to participate. Therefore Lincoln will be holding qualifiers on Thursday 23rd November, Monday 27th November and Wednesday 29th November.

A partnership can still only play in one qualifier. However, individuals may try and qualify with different partners on each of the three events if they like, or even at other County clubs. Of course they can only play in the semi-final with one partner so need to be clear on their preferences at the outset.

Finally just a reminder that just because you qualify doesn't mean you have to play in the semi-final. It is always your choice.

Looking for a Bridge partner?

Are you looking for a bridge partner for a particular occasion, or interested in finding a more long-term partnership?

Or a visitor looking for a one-off game?

Are you aware that both Elaine Proctor (01522 878059) and Janet Collins (01636 702030) are happy to try and help for any Lincoln sessions? Even if your regular partner is away, why not play with someone else? More pairs ensure every bridge session is better attended and more enjoyable for all.

Give Elaine or Janet a call or send an email.

How to help your Bridge Club

The Club always needs people to help run our bridge sessions. Members are asked if they can be available to train in dealing, computer scoring, or TD training. Please let a Committee member know if you can help. We especially need more volunteers for Mondays especially computer scoring, you will be helped to learn!
