Mr Justice Dove rules in favour of Sport England |
The EBU has lost the Judicial Review of Sport England's position that they can decline to recognise as sports activities which do not have a significant physical component.
-
- Sport England take the definition of "sport" from the European Sports Charter where sport means 'all forms of physical activity which, through casual or organised participation, aim at expressing or improving physical fitness and mental well-being, forming social relationships or obtaining results in competition at all levels' - bridge fails at the first hurdle.
- The EBU, on the other hand, argued that bridge should be recognised as a 'mind sport', relying on similar recognition in other EU countries and by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
