NEW POLICY

THURSDAY PLAY - Five minutes before the start of the session (12.45) the Director will ring the bell and all participants must be seated at the table where they intend to play. At this point, a pair at a table without an opposing pair, a player without a partner or whose partner is expected to be late needs to notify the Director. Late arrivals after 12.50 will only be allowed to play at the Director's discretion. Once the movement has been entered on the computer and the play is set for the session, latecomers will not be able to play. This ruling will be strictly enforced.

SAD NEWS
SAD NEWS

IT IS WITH GREAT SORROW THAT WE TELL YOU OF THE SAD LOSS OF ONE OF OUR FOUNDER MEMBERS PAUL WEST THIS AFTERNOON FRIDAY 26TH MARCH. PAUL WAS OUR FIRST EVER DIRECTOR AND PROUD MEMBER OF OUR CLUB. HE FOUGHT HIS ILLNESS VALIANTLY OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME AND JOINED US ON SOME MEMORABLE HOLIDAYS WITH HIS WIFE CAROL, NOT LEAST THE OCCASION OF THEIR SILVER WEDDING ANNIVERSARY IN TUSCANY. WE HAVE MANY HAPPY MEMORIES ESPECIALLY THE FUN EVENTS HE ORGANISED IN OUR EARLY YEARS.

MIM DAVIES
MIM DAVIES

I heard from Jayne Ashman today that Mim sadly died on Tuesday. Jayne wrote such a touching letter that I thought I would share some of it with you " (I) met Mim through bridge some 10 years ago, she so looked forward to her afternoons at Larkhill and I would like to thank you all for your patience and kindness we never really took it too seriously!!! Mim was a real character working in television production all over the world. She was fiercely independent, interesting, funny and sparky right to the end. I will miss her." As indeed she will be missed by many of us and her endearing smile and cheerfulness remains with me.

ROGER RICHARDSON

We are very sorry to hear of the death of Roger Richardson. He was very encouraging to a number of our players as novices who enjoyed playing bridge and canasta in the sessions that he ran for the U3A at Norris Road in Sale and supported joint competions between Larkhill and Norris Road.

GIVE IT A TRY
GIVE IT A TRY

Adam Wiseberg has been incredibly helpful and has spent a lot of time setting up competitions for MCBA (Manchester County Bridge Association) and has even produced "Idiots' Guides" on YouTube to help you get going. There is still room for a few more tables playing with local people, some of whom you'll probably know.  REGISTER with Bridgebase.com, it's free or ring me if you want help, Anne 0161 283 2992

SUCCESSFUL SEMINAR
SUCCESSFUL SEMINAR
Larkhill Bridge Club was honoured to have Drina Vanner's first visit to the Manchester area to deliver her entertaining and instructive seminar on the Modern Rendition of the the Losing Trick Count and a succinct exposition of Opening Leads with Sherlock Holmes on the case.
This was our best attended seminar to date and allowed time for some practice of the lesson afterwards.
Following this, members and a number of visitors to the club enjoyed a soup and sandwich lunch.
Further pictures from the event can be seen on our Seminars page.

Chairman of the club, Anne Richardson is seen here presenting Drina and Jim Vanner with a token of the club's appreciation for their visit.
